I’m I mad or is this an insane amount for a cross breed dog?!

Finfintytint · 27/06/2020 22:11

Yup. Some breeders are very greedy.

IncrediblySadToo · 27/06/2020 22:13

It's an insane amount fir any dog.

No need to be snuffy about it being a 'criss breed'. Cockerpoo's are lovely.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 27/06/2020 22:15

As above-insane for any dog

Swooningmonkey · 27/06/2020 22:16

This lady is rehoming it for 3.5k which I thought was steep. She then replied it was a typo increasing the price to 5k, checked again thinking it was a mistake...but nope...5k for a 2yr old dog!!!

Swooningmonkey · 27/06/2020 22:17

I’m not being sniffy...Cockerpoos as cross breeds. I wouldn’t be after one if I didn’t like the breed!

overweightcat · 27/06/2020 22:19

That's ridiculous!
Puppies are less than that.

Not up to date with current prices but we got our cockapoo 4years ago for about 1000 .

Grandmi · 27/06/2020 22:19

I absolutely live for dogs but there is absolutely no way I would pay over £800 for a puppy!!

Elouera · 27/06/2020 22:20

Why is she re-homing it??? Sounds like a profiteering scheme- especially the 'typo' with the price she made!!! I'd avoid at all costs.

They are lovely dogs though. A friend has them and bred a litter. I'm sure she only charge about £800 for vaccinated puppies. She said it was very hard work though, and she'd never breed them again. I'd look elsewhere OP.

Woodlandtree · 27/06/2020 22:22

I don’t actually think anyone would pay that much for a puppy let alone a two year old dog - the person is just being very greedy.

Swooningmonkey · 27/06/2020 22:26

Seems like puppies are selling for around 2.5-3.5k Even that is an insane amount for a dog. I don’t know if Corona has lead to breeders trying to make an easier profit!

OP posts:
Swooningmonkey · 27/06/2020 22:29

Something a bit dodgy about her reasons for re-homing. She says her other dog keeps attacking it. But surely you’d re-home a dog sooner if that was the case. Anyway I’ve told her we won’t be buying it.

She’s just trying her luck

fivedogstofeed · 27/06/2020 22:39

Gumtree is full of people selling the family dog for a few grand. Supply snd demand. The greedy and heartless are cashing in.

Itwasntme1 · 27/06/2020 22:40

The price of puppies has sky rocketed in lock down.

It’s heartbreaking that so many will end up be surrendered when people start going back to work. Some rescues are already reporting this.

Pixxie7 · 27/06/2020 22:41

Ridiculous amount.

legalseagull · 27/06/2020 22:41

A friend is a manager of a rescue centre and he's devastated at what 'breeders' are doing at the minute. This woman may have bought the dog cheap or rescued it purely to make a profit. Lots of "I need to sell as I'm allergic" going on at the minute. Lots of people in lockdown have decided now is the perfect time to get a dog - leading to the unscrupulous sellers. They'll all be up for adoption again come christmas Sad

User1775836552 · 27/06/2020 22:46

Buying a dog to sell on, selling a family pet or giving up your puppy is obviously a bad thing. However breeders run a business and it’s a case of supply and demand. Why would you sell your puppies for a large amount under the market value? Would you do that with your house in an attempt not to be greedy because of the housing crisis?

Woodlandtree · 27/06/2020 22:47

I just looked at cockerpoo puppies for sale in my area and was surprised to see cockerpoos for £3.5k. There are also many adverts from families looking for dogs which I’ve never noticed before.
I saw the advert you are probably referring too and it states that the person advertising has been a member of the site for two years and is a breeder/regular advertiser - makes me wonder what the true story behind the dog is, perhaps ex breeding and now has no use for her.

Caitlin73 · 27/06/2020 22:49

Please consider rehoming a dog that genuinely needs a home. If you are after a particular type of dog, small, curly coated etc Greek Animal Rescue can help and it's a fraction of the price. Not even £500 to bring a dog to UK. Personally I am finding it hard to find a dog to rehome in this country as everyone has suddenly decided they want a dog!

wheresmymojo · 27/06/2020 22:54

Yep - prices have gone insane since it seems everyone wanted a dog during lockdown.

Sadly we expect a flood of dogs in rescue homes in the next six months so will wait for them instead.

Notwiththeseknees · 27/06/2020 22:54

Dogs of Portugal have over 700 looking for homes. Poodles of Portugal have poodles & crosses. Lots of fantastic dogs looking for loving forever homes.

AgeLikeWine · 27/06/2020 22:56

The covid lockdown has caused a huge spike in demand for puppies in particular, but also for fashionable crossbreed dogs of all ages. Demand far outstrips supply so, as with any other commodity, the price can only go one way. Breeders are businesses, so they will inevitably charge what the market will bear for their product. It’s naive to think otherwise.

I have zero sympathy for anyone stupid enough to pay £5k for a crossbreed dog. A fool and his money...

CallmeAngelina · 27/06/2020 23:03

Bloody hell!!
Mine is 9 yrs old and we paid £695 for him, which was the going rate then and there were hardly any around. Worth every penny and he is a fabulous creature but would I pay thousands? No way!!!

tara66 · 27/06/2020 23:12

I read I think in Country Life that they are not an actual breed as such in that you always have to cross a cocker spaniel with a poodle to get the cockerpoo every time. Same with labradoodle. They can't produce them by mating cockerpoos with cockerpoos. So they are rarer and I suppose that's what makes them more expensive.

CallmeAngelina · 27/06/2020 23:17

No. They're expensive because "breeders" are chancing their arm to make a fast buck.
