Hello all

My dog was out running
Seems to have hit under his tummy off a post
These is a long cut
Not deep
Very red

Rang vet w few days ago
This dog is very very anxious and will never let me put him in car

Vet said anti biotic and a lampshade around neck to prevent constant licking

Today I noticed some puss
Will of course ring vet first thing Monday

Is there anything else I should be doing before then?

Dog is very happy as always
Keen to go walkies 2-4 times a day but I just worry he is of course very precious
I want to do as much here then consider what if I need to take in for vet to see him

Thanks all

Just to also add no smell

Smell was for one day only bizarrely

I’m certainly not medically trained to comment but no way would I leave my dog unseen by a vet in person if the wound looked like that several days later and after a course of antibiotics.
@Veterinari is the person best placed to advise here though

dublingirl66 · 01/07/2020 21:53

I agree

I need to get a vet to the house

The dog will not let me near him

Managed to get this as he was eating just a short while ago !!!

It has been hell and I have rang our vet now three times

You said it was “barely noticeable“. That is categorically NOT. It looks horrific. Has a vet seen even a picture of that in the last 24 hours?

dublingirl66 · 01/07/2020 21:55

So next image is the day it happened

Sorry cross posted. If you can’t get hold of your vet properly and can’t get a proper consultation, find a new vet NOW!! Or at least momentarily use one of the vets who can do a video consultation that I recommended before.

Veterinari · 01/07/2020 21:56

Thanks @dublingirl66
It's good there's no smell and it looks pretty clean but I think that wound may well need surgical closure

It's actually in the fold over the upper thigh and therefore is pulled apart each time the dog moves it's leg and it's likely it won't close by itself or at least will take an awfully long time.

It's worth sending your vets updated photos

When it happened this was how it looked

Oh dear that looks like it’s in a very awkward place for healing poor boy , good luck with the vet OP

Sitdowncupoftea · 02/07/2020 16:40

I always have luecillan in. Its an antiseptic disinfectant for pets. If my dogs get a cut I spray with it straight away. You can buy it from Amazon.

Wolfiefan · 02/07/2020 16:44

@Sitdowncupoftea me too! It’s great stuff.
