We had to say goodbye to our dog. On Tue. I am heartbroken and so sad but she was 15 and had kidney failure.
I have had two dogs since 2006 and my other dog i think is missing her but i wanted to ask. Can they mourn a dog thats gone or is it because i am so sad xx

Yes I believe they miss the dog that has died. I've had 2 dogs on separate occasions miss/pine the companion that has just died.

Sorry for your loss.

I think they can grieve and certainly if not used to being alone can struggle
with separation anxiety & lack confidence in situations without usual support buddy.

I've always taken my passed dog home before taking for cremation just so the others know & not waiting for their return. I don't know if they actually care but they usually sniff and seem settled going back to whatever doing, their behavior in days after can seem a little subdued & it has been same when one dog has been away at vet hospital a few days.

Its so hard having to say goodbye even if know its right time for them. It doesn't ease the void left but having another dog helps for the routine and are lovely for cuddles and helping each other through.

Pet loss can sometimes get little sympathy & understanding from others, so its great this service exists.
