Vets have booked spaying

Thought it may be of interest that after being closed throughout lockdown, our vet has today accepted our ddog to be spayed on 6th July, so it looks like things are starting to reopen in the vet world again.
Also, is there anything I should know/be prepared for? She's 15 months Labrador, how long does recovery normally take?

When our girl was spayed, she was a bit drowsy and glum for around 24 hours afterwards, but very quickly back to herself. The advice we got was to take it easy for a couple of weeks- no overly long walks, jumping up on furniture and stretching the wound or swimming.

We were fortunate that she took no interest in her wound, but previous dogs of ours have, so you may need a collar to stop her getting at it. Vet also advised bland food for a couple of days afterwards which we purchased from them directly, but you can also use plain chicken etc

When we had our dog spayed recently, the vet recommended we get her a post op recovery suit to save her wearing a cone. The suit was great so I’d definitely recommend one. He also advised food that was gentle on her stomach after the anaesthetic for about 24 hours. We gave chicken and rice and some food from the vet. Our dog was a bit sleepy when she came home but was trying to run around and jump on things the next day. Obviously we encouraged her to take it easy but it was difficult as she seemed absolutely fine. The vet said it would be 2 weeks before she was allowed to go back to normal in terms of exercise.
Our girl had to have painkiller each morning for about 5 days. She was fine with it but apparently it can cause an upset stomach so be warned.

OP, how many seasons has she had? I'd be cautious about spaying a medium-sized dog before about 2, as dogs that size don't seem to mature mentally until about 2 or 2 1/2. You need to make your own judgment.

If that was metacam, if it doesn't agree with them it will turn their shit to epic runs and then to water and if you aren't expecting it as a possible side effect it is very disconcerting.

She's had one season, vet has advised to get it done as we've no intention of breeding her and definitely don't want any accidents

The one we bought was from Amazon and the brand is called Suitical. I’ve just had a look and they still sell them, there’s lots of other brands too and I’m sure they are probably very similar. I’ve had cats and dogs before who have had to wear cones and they’ve hated them so I wish I would have known about these suits before, you have to roll it up for toilet trips but it clips in place so it’s very easy. It’s really soft so it doesn’t irritate the stitches at all. There’s a size chart on Amazon so you can check the best size for you girl.
