Dog refusing bravecto tablet, now completely disintegrated

I've tried everything over the years - making a game out of it, mixing it with training treats as part of a fun training session, wrapping it in ham, cheese, chicken, beef.

You're not meant to cut it up but it's such a big tablet my dog just licks away whatever it's stuffed/wrapped in and then spits the tablet out. Last time I had more success cutting it into smaller pieces, stuffed into warm bits of sausage. But today I've tried the same thing and it's not worked. And now most of the tablet has completely disintegrated in the warm sausage. £35

She's had a quarter of the tablet, but I've lost the other three-quarters and she won't even eat the sausage that it's disintegrated into.

Does anyone know if the quarter tablet will give her any protection at all? The tablet as a whole is meant to give her 3 months protection. Has anyone any other ideas to help me please?

Does she like gravy? Forget about it til later. Mix the sausage in some gravy and put in with her tea tonight..

They always used to offer a replacement/ refund and then the practice would claim it back from bravecto. Perhaps they could swap you for the bravecto spot on x

Yes I'm sure she'd like gravy but the one I have (bisto best) has onion powder in so I'm not sure it would be safe to give her?

Thanks for the suggestion to ring the practice about a swap - I hadn't thought of that.

I wonder if it makes her feel nauseous, tbh.

I had a dog that started to refuse Bravecto. I went through a few rounds of getting wilier at tricking him to take it until one time, I gave it to him and he was lethergic, disorientated for a few days and wet himself without knowing it. It was the Bravecto.

Lots of dogs take it safely but I don't think it agrees with every dog.

Be thankful, lots of bad reviews about that wormer, causing all sorts of problems with dogs. Including death

My dog hates the Bravecto tablet so we have swapped to the spot-on treatment.

@hormonecrazyhell yes, causes numerous neurological issues, mainly seizures. I don’t know how these companies get away with it

@Itsjustabitofbanter I don’t think they will for much longer, class actions in America, I gave it my dog once, thankfully his reaction was mild, but that’s when I looked into it, wish I had checked 1st

There are always risks of adverse reactions to any medication, for dogs, humans or anything else. But I don't think that an adverse reaction rate of 0.01% really qualifies as "numerous". There is more chance of ill health caused by flea or tick bites.

Honestly it’s 100 times easier to open mouth, put as far back down the throat as possible and then give the throat a rub.
I can tablet a dog in seconds with no fuss.

Don't feed her much this evening, then do the gravy or similar trick tomorrow with the rest. NexGard is much more palatable but only lasts a month.

Chuck it straight down her throat. Much easier.

I assume from PPs that spot on is available for dogs too. I recently swapped to the spot on for my cat. The crafty bugger would find it how ever well I'd hidden it (and the cat one is tiny). I even crushed it up and mixed it with cat soup, which she normally loves, but completely ignored this time. I can only assume that tablet tastes and smells vile!

Thanks everyone. I finally managed to get her to take them using the gravy trick. Am thinking of looking into alternatives but will start another thread on that!

One of ours suddenly refused Bravecto tablets, apparently they were changed slightly. And nothing worked until we just had a mess. Rang the vets who gave us the spot on version instead, at no charge, so worth giving them a ring

The spot on lasts longer too, 4 months for ticks and 6 for fleas. We repeat it every 4 months as this is a ticky area.

Same problem with my dog.. I never realised they did a spot on version! I shall ask for that next time. We did end up poking it into her and holding til she swallowed and she was not pleased!

I do the same as @bergerdog - open mouth, chuck into back of throat, hold mouth shut for 5 seconds and tickle throat. Works every time.

I have the same with the Drontal 'tasty bone' wormer. My dog takes one look, a gentle sniff, then sneezes and shakes his head. The only way I can get him to take it is to grind it up and mix it with butter - he's a sucker for butter.

Ive finally given up on the Bravecto chew. My Lab girl has always objected to it she is nearly 3. Ive found it under the sofa ( when I thought she had eaten it 2 days earlier!). I have hidden it in food and then had to rinse it and try other foods and even chopped it up. 3 days ago I chopped it up and she still found it and left every bit. I have in the past rang the vet and had a free one from them again. This time They swapped it for the 3 month one dose of the liquid. As I tried to open it I struggled with the top and then it spilt over my hand. So I took it as a sign that Bravecto and my girl should part company. So off I trotted to pets at home and got her frontlineplus the 3 separated doses in one box £33. Then I have just found it on Animeds for just under £21,so will be getting from there from now on.
I am going to treat her every month as give her a huge dose in one go.
From what I have read about the Bravecto chew, for every dog that takes it happily there are as many who just wont have it no matter what.

@Rooi there are plenty of other prescription flea and tick treatments . Frontline plus is cheap for a reason , the reason being that it doesn’t work .
