5month old pup suddenly crying at night

We've had our shihpoo for 3 months now, apart from a few nights of whining when we put her in her crate at night she has been great. Goes I her crate at 10pm and sleeps till 7am when I wake her up.

Friday night she was ill and there was sick and poop in her crate. She was sick again Saturday morning but since has been ok. Except when we put her in her crate she cries, first night for 20 minutes and last night for an hour. Any ideas of how we can help her settle?

She probably doesn’t want to be shut in a crate anymore because she knows she can’t get out to be sick and poo when she needs to , can you make her a safe space that is not the crate ?

what would she do if you went to bed and left her?

Can you leave the crate door open for her so she can get in/out if needed? Dogs don’t like too pee/poo in their ‘own space’
I am not a fan of crates at all!

We left the crate door open last night, she cried for over an hour and a half.
