Rolled dog collars

Are they any good? I would like to get our dog a collar that doesn’t leave his fur matted. He keeps getting small matts on the same side of his neck. Perhaps it is where the clip sits. Can anyone recommend a good collar for him? Might start taking his current one off at bedtime to see if that helps.

Mine has a rolled leather ‘American’ collar from Essenjay.

I have it on the locked position 24/7 so it’s a regular collar rather than a slip.

Couldn’t recommend highly enough.
It never comes off her and she’s worn it since about a year old.
So about 6 years and it’s apart from being slightly darker in colour then when I bought it in perfect condition.
I expect the collar will outlive her tbh.

She is long coated with a decent neck ‘ruff’ and no tangles

We used a rolled collar with out chow dog, she wore it for 11 years and it didn't rub her fur, was a very good collar for us

Our dog has one for when his hair gets longer (gets shaved twice a year).
Ours is just a cheap one from pets at home. Never had a problem with it.
I've seen some lovely ones on line and am thinking of upgrading.

Is there a reason your dog needs a collar all the time? Our garden is well enclosed so ddog only wears a collar when out and about, which avoids the matting issue altogether.

@RevealTheHiddenBeach, our garden is well enclosed, but I always worry that he may escape somehow e.g. window cleaner leaving the gate open.

Petiquette do some lovely rolled leather house collars , very lightweight and a wide choice of colours .

I have a hand made rolled collarfor my long hair dogs. I had it made as I couldn't find the right size, wasn't cheap but well worth it. No problems with tangles, 8 years on and still as good as new!

That’s good to know @Ylvamoon. DH raised an eyebrow at some of the prices of the rolled leather collars earlier. 8 years is great value for money.

My dog has a rolled leather Ancol collar which is brilliant. It's actually her second, the first one the drink the lead clips onto wore a bit thin with all her pulling and I was worried about it breaking near a road or something.
I understand why some people don't like their dogs wearing a collar at home, but mine has always worn hers as I'd worry if she went missing someone wouldn't be able to call me.

Mine did too but I think my Essenjay collar and lead are worth every penny.

heatseeker14 - mine was hand made made by a saddler, so I think the leather quality snd stitching is top notch. I don't know how good a commercial one is.

DH seems okay about the cost now. I told him that a decent collar should be good value for money. I also said that if we don’t get the dog a new collar he can groom him from now on. 😄
