What would you recommend and why?

Collar and proper training to not pull on the lead 🙂

Our two know to walk nicely when they wear collars and pull in a harness for Cani-X. Some harnesses can impede correct movement for dogs, so if you do decide on a harness, make sure it's one they can move correctly in.

Harness, just in case, and proper training to walk nicely

Agree that you need to make sure harness is a correct firnand will, not compress neck/airway

Harness and trained to walk nicely , our dog has tracheal issues , not from use of a collar , but if anyone was to pull on a collar on him he is likely to be very unwell .

Harness, it’s much better for their necks, comfier for them ( if well fitted) especially in short legged, long backed breeds.

sarge89 · 13/06/2020 20:10

It's not about whether the harness "fits well", it's about not having the chest strap. Watch this video please OP.

Thanks for the link. How do you make sure it's position correctly and fits properly?

Collar for tag, but slip lead and training to walk at heel.

I use a standard lead sometimes, but the slip is so quick and easy to get on and off.

Moondust001 · 13/06/2020 21:19

Neither. Always used a soft figure of 8 lead. Provides risk control at all times, pulling not possible, and doesn't cause any hurt. I would never use a collar - I can't imagine why anyone would want to be dragged around by the neck, so why would a dog? And whilst some are fine in harnesses, some dogs actually pull more in one.
