Crazy Puppy cost!

I wonder if all these people selling puppies for over £3000 are declaring this to HMRC? I've just seen a post on face book. A lady had paid a deposit for a puppy had fell in love with it to be told by the breeder they now want £4000. Its disgraceful! Greed!!

It's absolutely crazy!
If people wait a few weeks I'm pretty certain all these dogs will be rehomed anyway as the people actually paying those prices clearly have more money than sense!

I have noticed it seems to be the poodle crosses that are expensive. But yes the price has gone up. When I bought my springer five years ago he is £450!

Friend on FB was all set to pay for a puppy that she had seen with her DCs 4 times. Seller tried to put the price up by £600, they agreed on £300. Seller then tried to flog her a dog calendar at £25, when friend refused she wouldn't sell puppy to her, clearly so could sell at higher price elsewhere.
Breeder was KC registered I believe, but lots of complaints flooding in so perhaps not any more.

Yes it's these doodle things that cost loads but all dogs have gone up. Our first dog together was £115, advertised at £125 and the breeder knocked off the tenner because he still had a tail. It was just after the law was changed about tails and we didn't care but it covered the petrol to get there. He was categorically the best dog ever.

After he died, we looked again. I know it's 10 years but it was £600 minimum. We got a different breed and they were advertised at £450. When we got there and picked our pup, the breeder said to DP someone wants that one so I have to ask you for more as he's desired. They haven't paid a deposit. But she said to me that her brother advertised them wrong and it was £450 plus deposit. He's an ok dog.

I know someone that breeds doodles. They are advertised at four figures and sold for three. Still huge. Lovely dogs but not worth it.

Prices have gone through the roof in lockdown. I worry it encourages people with zero experience to breed a litter.

I don't imagine backyard breeders would report their income although bigger council-licenced establishments would probably have to - but I'm more concerned about the health of the dogs, both in terms of infectious disease and lack of health testing for the parents.

Our local vets have posted a warning after almost losing a recently purchased puppy-farmed pup to parvovirus.

In a few months the rescues will be flooded with puppies who no longer fit into people's lives now they are back at work.

I was quoted £4750 for a doodle. I said no thank you. I’m also aware of people who were expecting to get puppies but were told they were still born only to discover them re advertising for a lot more.

How is your average Joe supposed to afford a puppy these days? Get a loan from the bank? Let's be honest, a lot of people who could give a pup a loving home don't have thousands of pounds to spare do they? It's definitely worth either getting one from a rescue centre or keeping your eyes peeled for people rehoming their dog on various selling sites.

A friend of mine bought a cocker spaniel before lockdown for £950 but they are now selling for sums like £2,750 - £3,750 - crazy though I wonder if the prices will fall back pretty quickly when sellers realise that they can probably get away with charging a bit more but not those ridiculous amounts.
