“Doggy” tv shows - your recommendations

I love watching dog tv shows - though preferably ones with more “happy endings”. Like Paul O’Grady, and the guy on channel 4 who helps with behaviour issues etc. I also adored Pick of the Litter on Netflix.

Are there any lovely dog programs that I’m missing? It’s my “treat” to watch one when feeling a bit lockdown fatigued.

It's Me or the Dog - it's about 15-20 years old now but it's still available on YouTube. It features Victoria Stilwell and is very similar to the Graeme Hall one, although she uses slightly different techniques, and each episode is dedicated to one family rather than being split between three if that makes sense. She's done a couple of follow-up episodes too.

Alan Davies has done a dog rescue programme on Channel 5 too - some bits are quite upsetting as it does feature dogs who have been neglected and abandoned, but it generally has happy endings with the dogs finding forever homes in the end.

The Dog House (I think it was called) on Channel 4 featured Wood Green rescue trying to match potential owners with dogs.

@vanillandhoney I used to watch those when they were on - but wouldn’t remember now so will dig out on YT.
Not soo keen on the Alan Davies one as often it’s really upsetting. I loved a show on bbc a couple of years ago too - where they followed about ten people who has got puppies.

I know the one you mean but can't remember the name of it! My puppy and me or something maybe?

If you just search for It's Me or the Dog you'll get all the English episodes plus a few of the American ones too.

Me or the Dog with Victoria Stilwell has some horrendous training advice though so dont act on anything they recommend! Although in recent years she has come around to positive training originally she was a great fan of aversive training.

It is a real shame that most dog tv programmes are based on old rubbish training methods.

"Teach my pet" uses positive training methods not only dogs though

"Dogs" on Netflix. It's so, so good. The Zeus and Ice episodes are incredible pieces of documentary filming

She's done some follow-up episodes on YouTube since where she does say how she'd do things differently knowing what she knows now.

Her current training is pretty much all positive I believe.

@snowballer OMG thank you so much! Watched almost all of the series over the last two nights and they are truly great documentaries.
Incredibly powerful and not what I was expecting at all. Lots of tears from both me and dh watching them.

I Love Dogs with extraordinary jobs on Channel 5 - it just reinforces how amazing dogs are!
