Eye injury

Our pup hurt his eye recently. He stuck his head into some bushes and reappeared with a scratch on his nose. We didn’t notice anything wrong with his eye at the time. The next day his eye looked painful. Our vet prescribed chloramphenicol drops and anti-inflammatory drops for a week. Dpup doesn’t appear to be in any discomfort now, but I’m worried because we have noticed a tiny pin prick dent on his eyeball. I’m going to give the vet a call tomorrow to see if we need to give him anything else to help it heal. Has anyone else had this happen to their dog? I’m very worried about this affecting his sight.

One of our dogs got scratched by a cat on the eye. Similarly you could clearly see where the damage was for quite a while after doing a course of ointment and drops. She was completely fine though, it healed up with no lasting effects.

Thanks for your reply @fivedogstofeed, that’s very encouraging to hear. I think it looks like it has healed a bit. I’ve just sent our vet a photo to see what he thinks.

Probably a case of just watching in case another infection starts but our girl was a puppy at the time and is now a hale & hearty 13 year old, so hopefully your will be the same.

There is no sign of redness or gunge, and he stopped squinting less than a day after we started the course of drops. Hopefully it will heal up okay. Thanks Fivedogs, I feel a bit more chilled about it now. 🙂
