Butternut Box - dog food - do you?

Does anyone use Butternut boxes to feed their dogs? They look good on their website but I'd like real life reviews please as they're not the cheapest. However they've got 94% on 'allaboutdogfood'.

Any advice appreciated! It will be for our new puppy who is currently being fed raw by the breeder, but raw isn't for us.

Thanks :)

Before butternut my boy often had an upset belly and I’ve been known to send photos of good poos to my mum and husband 😆

I love dog owners obsession with poo 😀

On the rare occasions DH walks our dog I quiz him about the dogs poo!

😂 I take some time to inspect them. They are now things of beauty!

Does anyone know what the lentils do as they aren’t digested.

mothtoaflame · 03/05/2020 22:18

Our dog loves it and I think their customer service is very good.

Customer service is very good so we could ask about the lentils. It’s a good question!

You might be OK with the poos, our very active labrador eats a lot to maintain her weight, it really did increase them from 2 -3 to 5 a day!
But also read about the research into grain free diets and canine cardiomyopathy. Butternutbox do discuss this.

That's a good question about the lentils. Can an existing user of them ask?

I used to feed butternut box - very good service and website, and I liked the company. Their recipes are quite limited though - 4 flavours but I believe they just introduced a 5th recipe. My dog got bored after a while and started refusing to eat it. They're all very samey - same basic ingredients with just the meat swapped in each recipe.

I also got a little bothered by all the lentils. I suspect they're a fairly cheap filler but with the company being able to state they are grain free.

I ended up switching to Different Dog - same principle with gently cooked fresh food, but they don't use lentils and they have around 10 recipes, plus release seasonal recipes regularly too. Each recipe has different bases too, so they all taste very different to the dog and avoids them getting bored. Slightly better packaging too.

Regarding the lentils, a friend asked butternut box about why they use them, and their response was "if we ever find a way of not adding lentils we'll be in touch"
