My oldish greyhound was supposed to start taking painkillers for what is possibly arthritis this evening. I waited until supper to give it to him and it turns out he has to have it on an empty stomach. He's in a lot of pain and I don't want to wait until the morning - how long does he have to wait until he can have it? Vet is closed which is why I am asking here.

I just gave him his supper without thinking about it as he has other meds he needs with food. Obviously now wishing I had waited.

Gastric emptying time is about 2 hours. What medication is it?

Thanks, @Patchworksack. It's onsior tablets.

The data sheet advises at least 30 minutes before or after food.

Yes inside shouldn't be given on an empty stomach but around the time of feeding to maximise absorption and reduce side effects

Thank you! I love this board.

I would just give it asap tonight but, unlike other NSAIDs which really need to be given with food, Onsior is designed to be given without food. Read data sheet above.

Yep sorry my point wasn't clear - I meant that you don't need to wait for an about stomach ie 4 hours after feeding - but just before or just after feeding
