Harness to help with pulling

We have 5yr old pattedale x springer. She's great. Well behaved, obedient, fab off the lead and a good solid recall.

She's great to walk off the lead, but obviously there are plenty of occasions when she needs to be on the lead. But she's rubbish on the lead! She's solid and strong, and drives us mad pulling. I also have a major neck problem (stenosis) and I just can't walk her on the lead any more. Luckily my daughter will always come with me at the moment.

Can you please recommend a harness that will minimise the pulling?

I found a harness didn't help with my dog but what does help is a halti, it's like walking a different dog. He still pulls sometimes but it's a million times better

Absolutely a million recommendations for the Halti. I look after my sisters dog a lot he’s such a lovely thing except for the pulling which was really irritating. My friend recommended the halti - only about £8 and it really is like walking a different dog.
You put it around the nose which I think puts people off them but the dog can still bark , eat treats etc

Easy walk isn't anything like a normal harness although it is a "harness" if that makes sense you need to look at their website.

My friend had to send her dog to borstal and that is what the trainer uses, cured instantly with the harness on.

Halti do a chest harness too. Instant cure for our dog. They can’t pull as it just turns them round.

I agree with @tossacoin1, the halti is brilliant. Its a band that goes around the nose and behind the ears, a bit like a horses head collar (it dosent hurt the dog or cause any discomfort at all). It was pretty cheap too!gives you so much more control than a body harness. Give it a go!

Would bear in mind that Easy Walk harness will restrict the natural shoulder movement & effect dogs gait whether its pulling or not. There are Y shape harnesses with a front ring which work on principal of turning a pulling dog usually used with a double ended lead to clip on the back ring, such as perfect fit, TTouch/mekuti.

If decide to go with a head halter then you need to spend time getting the dog comfortable putting on & wearing it, much like with muzzle training. The dog will likely try to paw it off if just put on and go out for a walk. They should fit well and not slide into eyes, really best used with a double lead also so that it doesn't need to be in use all the time.

Training is the long term fix, these are more tools to aid management in mean time so can be safely walked.

We have a Perfect Fit, Halti and a Gentle Leader. Tbh, the Halti and Gentle Leader are much of a muchness. Our dog is quite good on them, but he's a clever massive little thing and he's worked out that if he jerks his nose, he can resist the turn.

With the Perfect Fit, he's manageable but he pulls like a train. It almost just harnesses and concentrates his strength.

I'd give either the Halti or Gentle Leader a try.
