How to walk puppy?

I have a puppy which I'm supposed to walk twice a day for 20 minutes. This is the official guidance (5 mins per month of age, twice a day).

I'm worried about taking her for one long walk, as it might affect her hips in the long run (she's a Labrador, so prone to displasia). If I only take her for one short walk she'll destroy my house and likely put on weight.

What are others doing in this situation?

She'll be fine with one walk. Cut down food slightly if concerned about weight gain. Brain games in the house will prevent boredom trashing.

I would walk her as per usual. Don't let her off lead, don't let anyone touch her and try and stop other dogs coming up to her.

We have a stir crazy 6 month old Husky. We're his third home so we've some catching up to do with socialising - people and other dogs - so we're worried what he's going to be like when this is all over and whether we'll be able to undo the lack of socialising then.

Have you got a garden? We've found that we can play football with him for 30 minutes and it tires him more than a walk.

There is no scientific backing for the 5 minute 'rule' so there is no reason why you can't do one longer walk and brain games at home as well.

Just walk her once and do brain games with her.

You don't need to walk her twice a day at all.
