Cockapoo breeders

Bit of a long shot, but I'm looking for personal recommendations for reputable cockapoo breeders. Needs to be in Hertfordshire or adjacent counties. Many thanks in advance!

I hope you have your hardhat and flame retardant suit ready OP, I don't think you are going to get any good answers here, just advanced search 'cockapoo' to see how this board feels about cross-breeds! I am not one of those that believe there is no such thing as a responsible breeder of cross breeds but they are certainly few and far between - crossing 2 breeds doubles the amount of health tests you need to do for instance as you should do all the recommended health tests for both breeds. And for an lay person it can be really difficult to tell the difference between a true responsible breeder and a puppy farmer, at least with pedigrees you have the (admittedly limited) assurance that you can go for a KC approved and breed-club recommended breeder.

If you are also limited geographically I think you might struggle - would you not consider going for a purebred pup - that way you get more chance of getting the coat, personality etc. that you want (with crossbreds it's always going to be a bit of a lottery with possible throwback to 4th or 5th generations). Poodles left with a natural trim as opposed to a show cut look pretty indistinguishable from your typical 'cockerpoo' look IMO and in personality/temperament are quite similar too although of course it will depend on the parents and how they are raised...

I read a lot about the 'pretty indistinguishable' line between poodles and cockapoos.

Does anyone have any comparison photos to support this. Dh 'hated- poodles but would have a cockapoo so I'm trying to show him they are so similar.......

I'm not very good with posting pictures but Google image search (miniature) poodle natural hair or natural cut brings up lots of cute cockerpoo like dogs. Or if you advanced search threads on cockerpoos or poodles on this board, lots of people post pics of their mini poodles who people can't believe aren't cockerpoos. So many people just think of poodles with the silly pom pom show cut but obviously their hair doesn't naturally look like that!

Cockapoo and poodle puppies look similar, but full grown poodles have a very different face shape. It’s personal preference.

But OP you will get slammed for asking as according to MN, there is no such thing as a responsible cockapoo breeder.

I can name 3 MNetters who will be on to tell you you are single handedly funding puppy farms and animal abusers.

Aside from the breed question, might also be worth thinking about whether now (or in the next few months) is the right time for a puppy?

Always happy to get a photo of my lovely boy on. He's a mini poodle but people always think he's a cockerpoo. Even though I keep his hair quite short.

I'm not sure they do necessarily have a different nose shape. It depends on what nose shape the cockerpoo gets from its parents. It could have a slightly wider shape like a cocker spaniel, to a slightly narrower poodle nose, and all in between.

It's also massively to do with cut. Traditionally poodles have a shaved nose. But obviously they aren't born with a shaved nose.

Haha! No. It's my daughters seat. He just decided he likes to sit in it.

More poodle pics for you!! Everyone always thinks our boy is a cockerpoo, apart from the poodle owners!! The tail is far more curled upwards in poodles and there is a 'look' about them - but 99.9% of people can't tell the difference when a poodle is in a pet clip, like ours is.

You would do much better to look at poodles or cockers. Reputable breeders don’t churn out cross breed puppies for cash.
There are also rescue groups if you felt you had the skills to take one on.
There are good breed selector quizzes online to help with ideas. Eg grooming.

This is not true. You should test for any recessive disorders which affect BOTH parent breeds. But if a recessive disorder only crops up in one of the parent breeds, it cannot manifest itself in the puppies - though they might still be carriers. You should also test for any disorder with a poorly understood method of inheritance but about which you can get an idea from parental scores - hip dysplasia is the classic one here - and for any dominant disorder which may not yet be obvious. Always supposing, of course, that the tests exist.

Reputable cross-breeders do exist, but they are few and far between. That being said, plenty of pedigree puppies are produced in less-than-ideal conditions in puppy farms. I'd rather have a cross-bred terrier whose parents keep the rats down on a farm than any dog from a puppy farm or commercial breeding facility.

@MissShapesMissStakes Apologies for resurrecting an old thread but just wanted to ask about your gorgeous dog. Do you think mini poodles are fine with living with small children and all the noise etc that entails? The kids might be around 7 and 5 by the time we got around to having a dog. It’s a huge generalisation but I’d just read online that sometimes mini poodles are less tolerant of children than say standard poodles, or even cockapoos? Yours is so gorgeous . Thank you!
