Hi, my lovely squishy pug is 7 and I've not had him 'done'. Is it too late?

Speak to your vet, are there anaesthetic implications because of their breathing issues?

cleowasmycat · 09/03/2020 17:43

Has anyone waited til 7 or older?

It's not too late, neutering can be done at any age. If you're concerned about the anaesthetic talk to your vet about getting comprehensive pre-op checks including bloods done before they put him under. There is always a risk with any GA but it's small, castration is a very routine procedure and the checks can identify any potential issues in advance.

I wouldn’t neuter a 7 year old pug tbh.
I’d be too worried about the anaesthetic because if age and the squashed face/breathing problems.

Why do you want him castrated? We adopted a six year old dog who had just been castrated by the rescue place. He died of prostate cancer three years later and I wondered if there was a connection.

Because he wants to play with other dogs. Most other boy dogs get aggressive with him or want to squish him!
