Think DH showed the vet the wrong thing - this isn’t a yeast infection right?

Long story short DDog is a 7 year old Golden Retriever. I noticed he was licking his paw a lot so I had a look and found a little lump that seemed connected to the nail and the pad of his paw. I showed DH but he just glanced at it.

Made a vet appointment and DH took him (DDog won’t jump into the car and I can’t lift him so had to be DH). He came home saying the vet said it was a yeast infection.

It does seem like he has a yeast infection AS WELL but I don’t think that this is connected. Does this look like a yeast infection.

Well what did he show the vet? That looks like a paw abscess to me but why would the vet treat something they hadn't seen?

inwood I think DH wasn’t paying attention when I showed him. He just said to the vet there was a problem with his paw and she saw the yeast infection so thought that was what he meant. So he didn’t show the vet the lump. I’m not blaming the vet, she can’t treat what she didn’t see, I’m just thinking that this doesn’t look like a yeast infection so he’ll prob have to go back.

Anyway, it does look like more than a yeast infection to me, but if the vet isn't looking for a lump, she probably wouldn't have noticed it.

He sounds pretty dense. Go with him next time. That doesn't look like a yeast infection.

I was at home with our children. It just seemed easier rather than having us all show up!

This is why women deal with the mental load and burden of the home, when there is another perfectly capable adult there.

You’d hope ones husband to be somewhat competent surely? Doesn’t seem unreasonable for OP to expect.

Op can you ask to speak to the vet? Mention the lump and ask if that’s what they saw?
Better still make it DHs problem
He’s the one who didn’t deal with it originally, not sure why it’d be your job to come and take over from his half arsed job.

Or treat the yeast infection and if it’s all resolved in a week or so no issue. - I imagine it won’t be as others have said though.

Why are you asking MN rather than the person who took the dog what he showed the vet.

Ask him. If he didn’t point out the lump, send hime back.

If I had a pet with an injury I would take it to the vet myself as I'd be able to tell them what the problem was.

The paw in the photo has both a lump and a yeast infection. If I was only shown if briefly I wouldn't notice the lump - which I assume is what happened here. If OP didn't say "not the colouring, that weird lump there" then I'm sure the DH would have told the vet about it too.

DH said the vet had a good feel around but the lump is kind of hard to feel unless you know it’s there.

I’m going to wait a week and then (if nothing has changed) take him back.

Hi op. Can you phone the vet up and talk to them? You could then text them the photo. They may say it’s ok and bring them back next week, or they may want to see your dog sooner than that or be able to prescribe something without taking your dog back yet.

Call the vet and text them the photo. That's an abscess, DDog has had the same thing - his nail split, got infected, and the pressure of him running around on it caused a lump like that. It took a lot of antibiotics and rest to get rid of it.

How big is the lump?

Honestly, if the vet didnt see it then he wasnt very thorough. Thats why people go to the vet, because they should see these things. They should always do a thorough check of the animal to see if theres anything else wrong apart from the problem the owners found.

Anyways, if its a small lump it could be connected to the yeast infection. Could be an inflammation from licking the paw. I would treat the yeast infection and see what happens with the lump. Do you have a follow up appointment with the vet?

So I called the vet and she said she did see the lump and thinks it’s connected to the infection. But she’ll have him back in on Monday for a check in on how he’s doing.

So DH will be shown exactly the problem. I can’t take DDog, I can’t lift him into the car.

Well the receptionist checked with the vet, I wasn’t talking to her directly.

What I meant, was why couldn't you along with him? But it's irrelevant now anyway.
