Softening stools for a dog on "bed rest"?

Any top tips? Not taking his regular exercise so seems to have harder stools which don't come out so easily....

He seems to drink a lot but otherwise its dry kibble, with a little yogurt, kefir, venison bones, a bit of sardine, celery juice and the occasional bit of raw mince or cheese ......Yes that sounds eccentric: we basically add a bit of the healthy stuff we are having!

I'm now starting to add a little oat bran and linseed.... but anyone have a better idea?

My vet told me that fruits/vegetables will make their poo softer. Carrots, a little broccoli, canned pumpkin, apples, banana, if your dog will eat them!

We had this recently and we added cooked, mashed veg - usually sweet potato and/or butternut squash, carrot and whatever was in the bottom of the fridge. Worked a treat. We cooked up a big pan full, then froze plastic tubs of it and just got them out as needed.

Liquid Parafin oil.
Will help pass.
Had to do this when our guy was constipated. We got it from the vets.
