After op baby grow

Hi all,

My dog was castrated this week. He has a lampshade on his head(poor thing) and absolutely hates it. He hasn't got used to it one bit.
The vet had also offered a baby grow type thing for him, we went with the standard cone but now I'm not sure.
I've ordered one but DH says he doesn't think it's a good idea as he could still bite the area even with this baby grow on.
However as the vet had offered it also I thought it meant they must be good, and it would solve the cone problem!
So I'm wondering if anyone has used these and if they are any good? Thanks!

Not use done but your DH is concerned about the wrong thing. Ddog is hardly going to bite his wound! He wants to lick it because it hurts. Both come and baby grow are to stop him licking his wound and getting an infection from the saliva

We have used one.

Ours could get to the site by sticking his nose down the leg part so after castration we did have to watch him carefully. You might have the same issue depending on the breed of your dog. Typically we used this more at night for when he was sleeping.

Whilst it was tolerated better than the cone it was awful trying to undo the poppers to let him pee.

What we did find which worked better than the hard cone and the body suit was an inflatable cone. The vision isn't impacted so it didn't upset the dog as much and he could pee and poo as normal.

The inflatable cone is actually an inflatable ring that goes around the neck.

I’ve used one with a bitch that had to have her womb removed due to cancer. It worked really well & was much more comfortable than a cone. Being a Skye, big dog on short legs, the cone kept catching on the ground & she’d trip over it.

Tried one recently after dog castration. Once a hole was cut so he could wee he managed to get to the wound to lick it. Went back to the cone. Its only for a few days.
BTW sent the onsie back to amazon and was refunded even though hole had been cut!

We used a surgery suit after my pup had been spayed and it worked well for her - our issue wasn't her licking it, it was our other dog!

It worked better than a collar for her, as she's clumsy at the best of times

We just used a standard popper sleepsuit put on backwards. Had a few incase he did a wee in it, but he was pretty good, I just took it off and put him on his lead to go on the garden.

We had a suit when our girl was spayed - she's part greyhound and could still reach the wound even with a cone on. She was brilliant - made no attempt to get through the material, and looked very comfortable in it. Highly recommend them.

Oh and we just unclipped the suit when she went out for a wee or outside really at all. No need to cut the suits up...

If you are concerned OP, and if you can afford it especially if it doesn’t suit, try the Suitical grows. Our girl wore one from Amazon for 2 weeks very recently. Can recommend ! She had been spayed and also a fatty lump removed from under her armpit. It was pink camouflage and about £22 (she’s big!) worth its weight in gold x

Our dog recently had various lumps and bumps removed, a body suit wouldn't have covered one of them. If the stitches had all been in places that could be covered by a bodysuit I'd definitely have tried it instead of the cone. After a while in the cone, the vet recommended we use some bitter apple spray to deter him from licking - that seemed to work.
