Lump on my dogs back is cancer

My lovely little 8 year old norfolk terrier has a lump on his back. We thought it was something like a lipoma as it’s squidgy and moveable. Anyhow we took him to the vets today. He took a needle biopsy and said it was cancer! We’ve booked him in for this Thursday for it to be removed and to be sent off for further investigation. Tbh I feel completely thrown by this news, I honestly thought it was a fatty lump, now vet is talking about if it’s spread and chemotherapy etc. My dog is my best mate and with me virtually 24/7, I am devastated. Has anyone else had something like this on their dog?

@Rhodacamel - love the name, my lab had a mast cell tumour a few years ago. Vet removed it and large margins around it.
He’s fine 4 years later. No chemo for him but he was checked regularly and had bloods done periodically, but no further treatment.
They are a worry but it may be fixable. 💐

My dog had a large cancerous lump removed from the back of his neck when he was 12. No chemo. Lived another 6 years
