Walking dog and vaccines

Hi all,

I've received conflicting information.

My puppy had his DHPPI vaccine and Lepto2 at 8 weeks with the breader

At 10 weeks he had his second DHP but started at first Lepto 4 as my vets said they no longer provide Lepto 2

He is now 12 weeks and another 2 weeks before another Lepto 4

Would you say it would be ok to walk him in low risk areas now as he's had his full DHP

I am concerned about socialisation as the only experiences he's had are negative ones with my sisters and nans vaccinated dogs

Socialisation is more about getting him used to the big world outdoors, cars, buses, crowds, etc. What breed is he? Can you take him out and carry him?

It's annoying but true that the standard vaccine schedule is now two weeks longer than it used to be. Tuck pup into the top of your coat and go for a womble.

If you can access the far outside world - deep countryside - take a leash and let pup have a good wander.

He's a standard labradoodle and already large at 12 weeks. I did take him out once tucked in my jacked but it was hard to contain him with all his kicking and jumping around in my arms.

I want to make sure it's safe for him to go out but the fact of having to start the L4 two weeks after the L2 and delaying the process longer is quite frustrating

Me and my partner are already keen walkers so it will be lovely when he can finally accompany us

I would do it. Supervise closely to make sure he is eating anything bad/going near other dog poo.

Remember as a puppy his walks should be restricted to a max of 5 mins for each month of age.

What do you really think will happen?

I’m not being rude, but do you really think by taking him out he’s gunna roll over and die? Ask your vet how many puppy’s they’ve treated with lepto

I don't think that's true for lepto because it's the one that has to be given every year unlike the others.

I walked my puppy on the pavements at 11 weeks old (under vet guidance) but we waited until 2 weeks after L4 before we went into the boggy/watery/muddy countryside as I just didn't see the point of risking it given the sake of a few weeks.

How important is the lepto?
I have heard conflicting advice on this vaccine and not at all sure I am going to give this one for second dog.

When I picked up my collie the farmer told us they only ever vaccinated for parvovirus and declined everything else.

I did get the full lot of vaccines for my collie but took her out multiple times a day from the day I got her (10 weeks), I figured the risk of a fairly large, strong, adult nervous aggressive dog (from lack of socialisation) was worse than the risk of contracting a disease.

Vaccination against leptospirosis is important, especially if you are planning on taking your dog hiking and he will be going into water and through lots of mud. But yes I would be walking my puppy out on pavements now www.facebook.com/508912078/posts/10158666758162079/?d=n
