Any vets here, vaccination question

Hi my dog is 9 and has been vaccinated all her life. I keep her within reasonable date as she visits the kennels a few times a year.
She was over due by few extra months and vet wants to start again but I can't understand why. I love my vets but I just wanted to ask out there as I thought there was a study done a few years ago that showed a dogs vaccinations can stay effective for up to 3 years?
Humans get vaccinated and it only takes 1 or 2 rounds for either long or life immunity so why do dogs, horses etc need to be done every year? Are the vaccines not created the same way

Please people of MN don't get hyped up on any "it's just so vets make more money" ideas. Maybe it is maybe it isn't, we have a farm and the vets are very good to us, just looking for any other clinical views that might be out there

Doctor, not a vet. All vaccines are different. Some need quite precise scheduling to be effective (hepatitis A is a human example), with others, a gap doesn't matter, within reason (e.g tetanus after the primary course).

Which vaccine course does your vet want to re-do? Your OP sounds as if you're talking about kennel cough, but that wouldn't make sense as it's an annual vaccine.

Not a vet but as far as I know leptospirosis needs done annually. My vet says any more than 3 months late you have to start again.

There has been a study to show as you say however there isn't yet enough evidence to support a wholesale change in policy and most kennels would not accept a clear gap without a restart listed on the dogs certificate even if the vet agreed to it.

In years to come advice may change but, currently, it is accepted as best practice.

You can find the vaccination protocol recommended by the veterinary profession. It’s fairly complicated but dogs definitely do not need full vaccination every year.

Not all parts of the vaccination provide the same length of cover.
The WSAVA recommendations are that distemper, hepatitis and parvo give three years protection after the primary course ( 2 vaccines as a puppy and then one at 15 months of age). But that other vaccines have different durations leptospirosis is a core vaccine in the UK and challenge studies have shown that their protection really only last 15 months and after this you need two injections four weeks apart to restart the course.
