Help puppy minding

Dd and family have a 16 week old male cockerpoo. He is very sweet. I am sitting with him while they are at aParents Evening. I have taken him into the garden, he has peed and pod and I played with him. He has been fed and has water. He just went into his crate and appears to be digging up the bedding and throwing the toys out. Before that he grabbed a blanket (his) from a chair and dragged that into the crate. I have cats. Does digging up the bedding mean he needs to go out? If he was a cat it would be a litter tray behaviour.
He has just brought a toy and put it on my foot. I have made a fuss of him but I don’t know what he wants.

My dog digs in his blankets when he wants to get comfortable and go to sleep.

The toy thing is him wanting you to play :)

Digging up the bed for my dog means they are overtired and will fall asleep soon.

I threw the toy up and down the hall, took m in the garden on a lead and he had a wee then fell asleep until the family returned. Apparently if he wants to go out he barks at the door and the bed digging is his equivalent of getting comfy. I will learn. Thanks for help, cats seem simpler but I could fall in love with this little chap 😊

My in-laws soon fell in love with our dog and now my FIL sits him on a regular basis while we're out at work, as well as takes him for walks. If we don't need him to because of annual leave or something, he gets upset and asks to have him anyway!
