I feel like my heart is breaking. It's 100% the right thing to do, he has so many health problems and is in pain but it's so so hard. The vet is going to come to the house as he is such a nervous boy and we don't want that to be his last moments. I haven't cried like this for a long time.

Didn't want to read and run. Sending you love today xx

Dreadful time. Thinking of him and you,

Electrocute1980 · 06/01/2020 10:42

Thank you both x

My thoughts are with you, as a serial adopter of older dogs have been through this too many times, I can only say that having the vet come out is the best way.

Geoffreythecat · 06/01/2020 10:54

Just wanted to send a hand hold. It's devastating isn't it. My DH says it's the last act of love you do for them - I hope that's a tiny comfort for you today? Flowers for you.

Cobblersandhogwash · 06/01/2020 10:55

So sorry to hear this.

Tell us about him. What's his name? What kind of dog is he?

He's so lucky to have had you, such a loving owner.

spiderlight · 06/01/2020 10:59

Oh, bless you. Holding your hand. It's so hard - it will be a year on Saturday since we had to do it for our gorgeous old boy and the wait for the vet was heartbreaking. It's the last true gift of love you can offer, though, and a brave, brave decision to make. You'll be in my thoughts.

TheFaerieQueene · 06/01/2020 11:01

I’m so sorry.

Grandmi · 06/01/2020 11:02

Am so sorry. We had to make the same decision in August. Sending you lots of positive thoughts 💐

JKScot4 · 06/01/2020 11:02

Stay strong for your boy and let him go knowing how much he is loved, save your tears for later, sending lots of love 💙

Gingerninja4 · 06/01/2020 12:34

So sorry .They take a bit if our hearts with them xx

adaline · 06/01/2020 12:37

So sorry Thanks

It's the hardest thing about having a pet. I hope you're okay ❤️

IncrediblySadToo · 06/01/2020 12:38

I am SO sorry. It’s an awful thing to go through, heartbreaking - even though you know it’s the right thing to do.

Just try to focus on what a wonderful life he’s had with you 💕.

Another thing I find that helps a tiny bit is thinking about how much worse it would be if animals did have our lifespan.

I’ll be thinking of you this afternoon 🌷

Whynosnowyet · 06/01/2020 12:41

Sorry you are losing your ddoggy friend op.

Electrocute1980 · 06/01/2020 13:09

Thank you all so so much, your kind words mean such a lot.

His name is Alfie and he is a miniature schnauzer (but truly believes he is a Great Dane or some other huge dog!). We've had him since he was 8 weeks old and he was my baby before I had any human babies. He's 11 now and was in perfect health until he was diagnosed with diabetes about a year and a half ago.

Over the last year he's lost his sight, developed problems with his gall bladder and they've never been able to get his diabetes under control (despite his amazing vet's best efforts). At the end of the year he developed a tumour in his sinus and has been on pain medication since.

Before his diagnosis he loved chasing birds in the park, running up and down sand dunes at the beach, sharing my peanut butter toast, barking at every leaf which had the audacity to blow past the window and at the end of the day, once everyone was home and the kids were in bed, just chilling on the sofa as if his work for the day was done.

He has been the best dog we could have asked for and we will miss him more than words can say. It has been a privilege to be his human ❤️

Alfie sounds to be the bestest boy ever and I am so sorry you're losing him. I have just read your tribute out to my husband and now we are both having a sob for you.
I love these words.
“We who choose to surround ourselves
with lives even more temporary than our
own, live within a fragile circle;
easily and often breached.
Unable to accept its awful gaps,
we would still live no other way.
We cherish memory as the only
certain immortality, never fully
understanding the necessary plan.”

I'm so sorry Thanks

He sounds utterly wonderful and deeply to your very soul, loved.

JKScot4 · 06/01/2020 15:40

Alfie sounds like he was well loved and lived well, rest easy handsome boy 💙🐶

Electrocute1980 · 07/01/2020 08:53

Thank you all ❤️ It was very quick and completely painless and peaceful for him. His vet was amazing. We managed to hold it together until he passed peacefully in our arms and then we both cried like babies. I've been sick all night and am missing him so much, if I was ill he would just lie in my bed with me keeping watch. He was the best boy and I hope we managed to give him the ending he deserved ❤️🌈
