Miniature Dachshunds & children

My partner is allergic to most dogs but not miniature dachshunds - had one with previous partner. But what are they like with children?

I would be very careful.

Dachshunds are fairly fragile as breeds go and easily develop back problems due to their long spines and short legs. If a child dropped one or it fell during a game it could easily get injured.

They're also stubborn and fairly temperamental.

They are easily breakable. Is he allergic to poodles?

I have a miniature dachshund. She's smooth haired and barely maults. My kids are 7 and 10 and know not to pick her up as their backs are very delicate. She's very affectionate with everyone including the children but they are very needy and like being with someone at all times.

Yes to the poodle allergy. I have suggested a cockapoo or similar as I thought they were good for allergy sufferers but he says not for him! As I mentioned he has lived with a short haired miniature dashchund and it has been manageable so that seems the only possibility at the moment.

Could you not think about another short-haired breed?

Though to be honest, I wouldn't get a dog at all if my partner was allergic to them - it's not fair. Just because he managed with one, doesn't mean he'll be okay with them all.
