Getting dogs to go upstairs again after they have changed

I have had my stairs turned 180 degrees so the treads are wider and there is a small turn at the bottom. They are bare wood as I do not get carpet until the middle of January.

One of my galgos was encouraged up the new stairs with ham and he has been up and down independently several times.

Unfortunately my 2 other boys are not having any of it! This means I have been sleeping downstairs as I don't want my neighbours troubled by barking dogs at the bottom of the stairs at 1 in the morning.

Am I stuck downstairs until the carpet is laid? Any ideas on how I can encourage my 2 scardy boys upstairs?

I attach a picture. The brown brindle is (and always has been) the only proper dog of the three.

You absolute meanie expecting them to walk on bare wood! Grin
How very diva ish of them.
They're cute though 😍
I'd keep trying with ham or maybe even prawns

Are they far too heavy to carry up as once they go down once they may be ok ? They are very handsome boys .

Awww my podenco is a total woose too and would struggle with this change. Treats don’t generally help but giving him time and encouragement generally works in the end!

It's the non carpet that's the trouble. My two greys refuse to go up any stairs without carpet. Can you get carpet any sooner? You have my sympathy. It happened to us once.

Thank you for your responses. Can't get carpet any sooner but I have cut up some rubber backed mats and put them down. I will try them with these tomorrow.

Yes much too heavy to carry up and down unfortunately Sad

They are handsome (biased) but just a wee bit stoopid.

Could you put something else on the stairs? Towels or dog mats? They may be fooled! They are gorgeous btw.

You could try these - or similar. Under £20 so not too expensive and a lot safer than something that could cause a fall for a person if they moved

Thanks Khlone I will order some of those. Fingers crossed.
