I need to buy a dog treat pouch ready for pup’s training class. The trainer recommended Doggone Good! bags, but they are a bit pricey.
What treat pouch did you use for training?
He also recommended Tug-E-Nuff chaser tug toys. These toys look really good but again are expensive. Are they as good as they look or are there cheaper alternatives?

For treat pouches this is the best one I have found.

That bag looks too small for the number of treats you will need to get through one class. I have a fanny pack, had mine since 1997 and it’s still going strong. You can get one very cheap.

Never heard of Tug E Nuff before but they are ludicrously expensive. A run of the mill rope toy should work as well.

I am not sure I like the fact that the trainer is recommending named brands with hefty prices especially when there are good, cheap alternatives. I always ask people in a very general manner to think about where they will keep their treats and consider something like a fanny pack, but that’s as far as I go.

The Doggone is an overpriced fanny pack and the other one suggested below is very small.

Enough space for treats, poo bags, ball and a brush/ comb , (my dogs are long hair and get all sorts tangled in it! )

No one in our training class (8 pups) wears a training pouch. We just stuff handful kibble in pockets.

I use a bum bag that I got somewhere like Go Outdoors. It's got two pockets - one for phone and poo bags ( and whistle when it's not round my neck) and the other for treats, spare slip lead, clicker and penknife. I can also cram a tennis ball or two in there as well.

Booboostwo if it's mine that you are saying is too small I have never found that to be an issue and I have used it for agility/scent and obedience training classes.

I guess if you use large treats then yes it might be but if you plan to treat lots then smaller treats are better anyway. The best thing is that the closing is magnetic which means you can push your hand in quickly to get a treat and it closes automatically, something which used to annoy me with other treat bags having to open and close them.

Love doggone treat puches - easy to get hand in and reward in good time stays on and shuts open easily. Washes well and pocket to put phone or keys in.

Also Tug E Nuff toys are amazing, hard wearing wash well, last for ever. I have some that are 10 years old - dogs generally love them. We have a lot of them in this house.

I just put treats in my pockets of my dog walking coat. In a sandwich bag if cheese/meat.

I can’t believe you’re being told what stuff to get before a training class.

A bag in a pocket, a bum bag, or any treat bag that clips on and is easy get your hand in will suffice.
Find out what works best for you before spending loads of money.

I can understand them recommending items as they will get asked for things like that so why not say up front what they find best.

However, there are lots of training pouches and tug rope toys. Unfortunately only you and your puppy will determine what is best because I found lots of things other dogs liked mine didn't.

Thing about a training pouch is that it does make a huge difference in training. If you are training regularly a pouch will have a major impact on your rate of reinforcement, general timing etc, where you can position the pouch to not poison cues etc. Pockets will alter all these things in a negative way.

If you are not "into" training in a big way then other pouches or pockets will work but expect your dog to be looking at your hand movement as part of the cue .

Toys absolutely anything can work as a toy if your dog is motivated to it - however a well designed dog toy like TugENuff will make it easier for you to interact with your dog in a way that they find motivating and rewarding and will last and last. The toys will encourage a positive response to the dog towards you as the toys are needing you to make them "fun".

Thanks for your replies. I will take a look at the pouch you suggested, Bitey. At the moment I use a sandwich bag. I usually grab a few treats to hold at a time so I’m not faffing about in my pocket. I’ve wanted to get a treat pouch for a while but don’t want to spend loads of money on one.
I really like the look of the Tug-E-Nuff tug chaser toy. I have been looking for a toy to take on walks to keep his focus on me. I have a feeling he would like this because he prefers a game of tug over chasing a ball. If the toy is long lasting, I don’t mind investing in it, but most of his soft toys get binned within days, sometimes minutes 🙄 DH was not impressed when I showed him the list of suggestions!

I wear my fanny pack and click reward for good behavior all day long with puppies (with clever ones I phase it out around 9-10 months old and use it only for walks, teaching new things, specific training sessions, etc. With slow learners I keep it on my for up to a year.).
