Best dog walking torch recommendations

Hi, I'm wanting to buy a torch each for two teenage boys who are about to get a puppy after Christmas.
Any recommendations, they live in a rural area with no street lighting.
Or will just any cheap torch do?
Thanks

What about head torches and that would leave a hand free

Honeyroar · 11/12/2019 21:38

I’m rural, no streetlights nearby, with dogs and horses. Last Xmas someone bought me a beanie hat with a rechargeable light in it. It was life changing- so great to be able to use both hands and the light is so bright. Less bulky than a head torch too.

Whitney168 · 11/12/2019 21:39

Snap, Honeyroar!

Honeyroar · 11/12/2019 21:39

Haha, snap @whitney. Although cheaper on eBay.

Honeyroar · 11/12/2019 21:40

Snap again!😀

I’ll stop now!

I wear a beany with a rechargeable light in it...
brilliant..hands free and perfectly wearable when the light isn't on!

I use this headtorch, USB rechargeable.

Another one for USB Rechargeable head torches! You want both hands free, especially when it comes to picking up poo

RoombaSavedMySanity · 12/12/2019 14:49

I also use a rechargeable head torch - makes a big difference (though those beanie hats look good too).

TildaKauskumholm · 12/12/2019 14:56

Headtorches are great, but please tell them that when they meet another human being on their walk, it's REALLY annoying and blinding to have the fecking thing pointed at your face.

sillysmiles · 12/12/2019 15:27

I use one of these.

Very bright and lasts and rechargeable.

Definitely go for a headtorch that doesn't require batteries. We started off with cheap headtorches but got fed up quickly with constantly changing the batteries and the batteries running out while you are out walking.

Thank you so much everyone. I love the idea of a beanie with light, they will make perfect presents.

The boys said they would just use their mobiles but that didn't sound very practical to me. Why do teenagers always think their mobiles are the answer to everything Grin

@TildaKauskumholm great tip about being blinded. I will certainly point that out.

I would also get them some safety lights so they are very visible to drivers. A lighted or reflective leash and collar for the dog is a good idea, too.

Thanks @Aquamarine1029 that's a good idea. Will check out some high vis stuff for the boys and the dog!
