Dog grieving?

My 7 yo JRT cross lost her companion - our 12 yo male border terrier cross who sadly died in September. We had her from a puppy and they got on really well until the last few months when she seemed to sense him getting weaker and became bossy towards him. She's been intolerant of other younger/bouncy dogs for a while, but since our other dog died, she seems to have become grumpier around other dogs, but in turn, more confident and friendly around people!
We had been thinking about getting another dog but now feel unsure whether this is the right thing to do.

Has anyone had a similar experience following the death of a dog's companion?
