What should I feed my puppy-he’s currently on pedigree

He’s a farm dog (local farming family that we know-lovely people). They had him on pedigree so we’ve stuck with it but I’d like to change it now that he’s been here for 2 weeks.

What would you recommend?

Homemade or raw diet.

There is a website called All About Dog Food which tells you how much foods cost and how good the quality is. Phase in a change of food over a couple of days.

Pedigree isn't great. We feed ours working dog food from the local agricultural suppliers (Skinner's Field and Trial) which is very good value for what it is and they thrive on it. They also get table scraps, offcuts and the odd bone.

Be aware that grain-free isn't necessarily a great choice: it has been implicated in heart problems in dogs. It's also good to NOT overfeed puppies, esp med/large breed ones: their bones do better if they grow slowly. Plus they're a bit more peckish and responsive to food rewards during training - some people basically feed their puppies all their kibble during training sessions.

There are far far better foods than Wainwright’s and Pedigree for less money.

I know when we had a puppy we continued feeding him Pedigree (same as the previous owner). When he went for his check up at the Vets, my mum commented that he had ridiculously bad wind that absolutely stank. The vet said Pedigree is not a good food for dogs, especially puppies. He suggested Chappie dog food as the best for him. After that no issues with wind!

Aatu - no skin/ear/digestive problems, dog in great shape, can highly recommend.

Barking heads or millies wolf heart

Canine Choice. Rated between 89-91% nutritionally, pretty reasonable price-wise and completely cleared up my dogs itchy, scurfy coat.

Lily’s Kitchen - one of the best. We’ve used it for several years. I’ve just checked it on the site noted above and it’s 90% plus rating for the cans we use. It’s not the cheapest, of course, but you definitely get what you pay for. Tesco stock it.

What kind of dog is he?

Orijen or Acana kibble. I sometimes add Forthglade meat but you don't have to. You can it all on Amazon and it's a reasonable price there. On the dog food comparison site that a pp mentioned these are 97% ish nutrition. Pedigree will be very low.

My Puppy loved Aatu kibble..and it rates very highly.
Orijen is even better but gave my girl the runs!
Now raw fed mostly but we give her Aatu if we are out for the day!
