7 month staff itching

I have a 7 month old staff who constantly itches ... it has been confirmed by her groomer she does not have fleas. I’m not sure if it’s a good allergy as her food hasn’t changed and I’ve had her since 8 weeks old. Although the itching has stopped, she has caused a mark on her arm which is now mostly clear. I was wondering if it’s okay to give piriton to relieve the itching?

Why not try and find out what causes the itching? A raw food diet sorted out my DMs constantly scratching lab.

Food allergies in pets are hard to treat and are usually food related. The fact she's had the same food so far means nothing as it takes time to build up. Most dogs are allergic to a protein in a food, not wheat like most people thing. You need to do a strict food trial with a weird protein such as duck or venison. Feed this and only this for 6 weeks, no treats. The minute she steals a bit of food you go back to square 1 so be very very strict. At the end of this 6 week trial you will know if its food related.

Take her to the vet for a dermodex mite check. They'll do a couple of skin scrapes and check under the microscope.

What colour is she? I only ask as blue is a very popular Staffie colour, and many can suffer from colour dilution alopecia because of the genetics behind the colour. Blue is a diluted version of black, and fawn is a diluted version of red/brown. They can develop the condition at any age. It can cause dry, itchy skin that is prone to infection and hair loss - it's not curable but is manageable. Definitely visit to the vet to be certain!

She is red and white, which was the same as her mum. The itching has stopped and where she has scrapped herself has started to heal, her fur growing back over. the vet said it did not look like anything to worry about but if the itching continues bring her back out. She also had said to put some sudocrem on it so fingers crossed it doesn’t return.

My staffy has had skin allergies since she was a puppy - she'll go through periods of being absolutely fine (like now), but last summer she was on steroids for months. I put her on a grain-free, novel (rare) protein diet & that did help a lot.
