This week, my dog has had a freak out over... a man in a hat, a dustbin in the wrong place, men on scaffolding, a ladder, a rhino on the TV and the hoover (standard). But fireworks? Nope, not bothered! Not sure I'd call him a tough nut though 😂

Whine · 02/11/2019 19:36

Mine apparently also gives no fucks about fireworks (although it’s the first time and the fireworks have been unexpectedly quiet tonight-maybe because of the weather?). The wind and rain today however is not acceptable apparently!

FuriousFlannels · 02/11/2019 19:38

I found mine in the garden the other day, watching them go off in the distance.

No shits were given.

FuriousFlannels · 02/11/2019 19:39

He also is sent to sleep by Alexa playing thunderstorm noises.

He is a weird one, for sure.

DramaAlpaca · 02/11/2019 19:43

I've two working springers who are used to gunshots, so when they hear fireworks they aren't in the least bit bothered. Thunder, on the other hand, they don't like that much.

QueenOfOversharing · 02/11/2019 19:45

@FuriousFlannels *I found mine in the garden the other day, watching them go off in the distance.

Haha! My staffy barks at them, as if she's pissed off. My beagle doesn't even notice them.

My son was in the kitchen one night, the light at back door came on - a fox was wandering about on the patio (which he had to get through the fence to get to!) and both dogs were fast asleep. The BEAGLE!!

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/11/2019 19:46

I am soo smug right now

BurnerPhone · 02/11/2019 19:48

Mine really isn't but she's 15 and gone almost virtually deaf so can't hear them at all! Few years ago she would be barking like mad tonight so I'm feeling smug non the less Grin

OrangeTwirl · 02/11/2019 19:50

My dog isn't bothered about fireworks at all. She wouldn't pass a Pumpkin in neighbours garden this morning though 😂

TwattingDog · 02/11/2019 19:52

Missy watches fireworks quite happily. The cat does as well.

Nothing scares the dog.... Except me and DH shouting at the rugby on TV. 🙄

user1471453601 · 02/11/2019 19:54

Our staffy thinks fireworks are quite fun. She cannot actually get up on the dining room chair to watch, which previous staffy/ridge back cross cou!d, but she gives it a good go. She seems to want to see what the noise is about

EmmalinaC · 02/11/2019 19:54

Until quite recently Sad we had an old Labrador who had been deaf as a post for his last few years. When he was younger he HATED fireworks but in his old age, he obviously wasn't bothered!

The bonus here was that our younger springer, who adored him, looked to him for a response, saw him snoring, and realised there was nothing to be stressed about.

Maybe every scared youngster needs to spend bonfire night with a deaf old one?!

MissRainbowBrite · 02/11/2019 19:58

We have a Springer here too. She's never once been an actual working gundog but is currently lying here snoozing next to me on the sofa while some very loud fireworks go off outside and she hasn't so much as raised an eyebrow. Just like any other evening really.

Lunafortheloveogod · 02/11/2019 20:03

3 chihuahuas and a baby who couldn’t give a furry rats arse about fireworks. The cat also doesn’t care.. but the cat hasn’t cared about much in his 6 years of life. Unless it’s the bottom of the dish showing.

I grew up with a dog who barked at everything.. I never trained them to be used to loud noises.. I expected hell every year. Maybe cause they’re closer to the ground they’re closer to hell they don’t hear it as loud or something. Or it’s the tiny demon that fuels their rage for the postman and men in red jackets.

StormBaby · 02/11/2019 20:08

Mine hate men in hi vis but don't give a shit about the fireworks. They've slightly raised the odd eyebrow at the loud ones(we live right on top of a professional display).

PrincessHoneysuckle · 02/11/2019 20:10

@Luna 3 Chihuahuas?

My Goldie doesnt care about fireworks, quite likes watching them in fact

Stellaris22 · 02/11/2019 20:17

Our basset sleeps through fireworks and storms, we consider ourselves lucky.

Puppywithattitude · 02/11/2019 20:21

Currently have a public display going on in what is effectively my back garden (field behind my house) hundreds of people, half wit dj from local radio doing his thang, loud music and all the firework noise.
Dog doesn't give a flying fart.

Caaarrrl · 02/11/2019 20:21

My poor little darling is terrified tonight. He's 3 and they have never bothered him before, but this year he is shaking and won't leave my side.

adaline · 02/11/2019 20:31

Ours growled at the first two or three and is now fast asleep on the sofa!

Majorcollywobble · 02/11/2019 20:37

My tiny female Yorkie never phased by fireworks .
Feisty little crossbreed terrier like the proverbial pub drunk - hold me back but let me at him- terrified of fireworks . But not of distant clay pigeon shooting at weekends - can’t understand it !

QueenOfOversharing · 02/11/2019 20:42

My staffy is also petrified when it's windy. But she has to be outside in it. She ripped an old cat flap off the door & squeezed through - sat in the rain while I was out! I leave the tv on but she's still terrified.

AmazingAardvark · 02/11/2019 20:55

Yes! My dog will dissolve into hysterical barking at: the postman, other dogs, builders, elderly people Blush, statues, people wearing hats, mobility scooters Confused, plumbers, people with walking sticks, the hoover, brooms, the doorbell, knocking noises.
Fireworks (and power tools): no shits given.
