Any one tried firework cds?

And if so do they actually work?
My jack russel wasn't fussed before but since we had a huge, and I mean huge thunderstorm a couple of months back she's now terrified of any bangs. Has anyone had any success with this method please?

I have used them as a preventative rather than cure but the principles of desentisation and counter condioning are sound and scientific and this is how these CDs are meant to be used.

The Dog's Trust have a good range of noises you can download from their website for this purpose.

The call outs I would have are:

• You must start at a lower volume that the dog is comfortable with. If you start at a volume the dog is already a bit wary of, then you risk making her her more sensitive to noise, not less. Plan it ahead of time, rather than just leap into playing the CD.

• You will get better results if you pair it with something nice, like food, but be careful that the sequence you use is noise then food. You don't want to feed a treat just before the noise or use treats as a distraction. You want to use them as a result of the noise so that the noise is always the precursor to the food.

• Dogs very easily become used to that specific noise from that specific speaker in that specific location but may struggle to apply that to the real noise. Once you have made some progress try to vary where and when and how you listen to those noises. If you can, vary the noises. For example, Amazon's Alexa will play thunderstorm noises so you could use those as well as the Dog's Trust, if you have that device.

Yes as a preventative rather than cure (as above). SockDog doesn’t like fireworks when she’s outside but could not care less if she’s inside.

You can get loads of socialisation sounds from you tube. Sirens, fireworks, thunderstorms etc. We used them a lot when he was a puppy.
