Fleas !!!

Please help me get rid!
I have a whippet with short fur and you can see them crawling on him really easily.
I have two bengals cats with very very thick fur and you would never know if they had fleas- of course I’m assuming they do as I just can’t shift them!

I used frontline and no luck, I bought Beophar for all of them on the same day (Monday) and washed all the animal beds. We have no carpets and I’m about to wash all the cushion covers again.

Any other ideas/brands?
Am about ready to wash two Bengal cats in the bath 😼

The only thing that has worked on our cats and dog is Advocate, as our vet said Frontline is useless as fleas have built up an immunity. Although this can only be purchased with a prescription from the vet.

We have found that buying the prescription from the vets and then buying the Advocate online works out cheaper, than getting it direct from the vets.

Then RIP flea spray from Amazon is great for the home, you just spray rugs, carpets and furniture after hoovering, although this will need to be done daily. You cant use this on beds or pet beds, so all covers need to be washed on a hot wash.

Wouldn't use frontline as they can build up a resistance, i would speak to your vet and use a POM deflea treatment like Stronghold. Indorex to treat the house & lots of vaccing up. Good luck!

I don’t know if you can get comfortis where you are but here in Australia it’s all I will use. Active ingredient is “Spinosad”

Advocate spot-on or Nexgard Spectra from the vets. Don't bother with the over-the-counter products, they normally don't work, you need the proper prescription stuff.

Fleas invade the house - the majority of the flea population is actually not on the animals, they infest your soft furnishings, the cracks of your carpets etc, you will also need to treat your home. They lay their eggs in the house, and when your dog/cat walks past, they hatch and hop on, replacing any dead fleas. As you can imagine it's a vicious cycle. Treat the house with Indorex spray, as well as treating your pets with either Advocate or Nexgard and hopefully it will get rid of the fleas!

Another vote for Advocate for the cats. And Indorex for the furnishings.

No carpets here as we had moths and are in a continual battle with them - if you have carpets you never get rid of moths.

We're using Bravecto for our dog now, it protects against fleas and ticks. It's a chewable pill for dogs, not sure about cats, I think that may be topical.

Bravecto is topical for cats - it’s what we use.

Advocate and indorex. Have very recently god rid of them!!!

Another vote for advocate and indorex. Although Comfortis was great when we had an outbreak as it works quicker.

Be careful with indorex on wooden floors, it will make them slippy. But don't think that because you don't have carpets the eggs and nymphs aren't in the cracks of your floor, your sofa, all the dogs beds and toys!

You need to quarantine and hot wash everything you can, keeping clean well away from yet to be washed to avoid cross contamination, and Indorex everything you cannot hot wash.

Be prepared to go through this whole cycle a few times to get rid of the stragglers!

Also I highly recommend Indorex every 6 months as a preventative. Stops house becoming reinfected from critters that have lived on someone else's dog/cat and hitched a lift inside your house.

I know what the answer is really, but does anyone know a way to get Advocate without spending £50 per animal?

That's £150 for six month of flea treatment for a dog and two cats. There must be a cheaper way?

Ask vets as maybe cheaper to get a prescription for the advocate & buy online (they're limited on suppliers) or they can suggest an alternative affordable treatment.

I checked with my vet & he suggested advantage on dogs as an OTC rather than frontline had used in past, but I'd only seen 1 flea after a good hunt so not got to tackle an infestation.
Sprayed the place with Indorex too which should prevent breeding cycle for year, it does take quite a while to air so will all need to be out for few hours & I was glad I ran out of time to do all in one go so had a untreated bedroom we could all retreat to & did that one the following day. Lots of hoovering, suggests using something in its dirt bin to stop them then setting up home in there.
