The smell of valerian/stress relief

Ok this stuff is vile!
Ddog has anxiety and it’s getting worse so vet has given me a spray and some tablets. The tablets I can deal with as they go on his food but the spray 🤢
Do you get used to the stench?

Mine was having full blown panic/meltdowns. No idea why he seems healthy

Also any side effects anyone has noticed in their dog?

A friend of mine tried them but felt she had better results using both zylkene and adaptil - though these are no substitute for looking holistically at things you can do to lower stress levels generally (you may have already looked at that) but can add extra help.

I also recall reading a study recently in which a diet high in certain factors resulted in clear rises in serotonin and dopamine levels (happy, relaxed hormones) and a drop in cortisol and adrenaline. Will try to find it for you...

This is the first thing he’s ever tried for his anxiety. He’s had it all his life, he had different owner until this year, and they didn’t really tackle it

He’s fine indoors. So doesn’t matter that I have sprays or plug ins they are no use on walks or in the car, hence him taking valerian orally

I reduce car travel to only when I need to, take his bed in the car etc, try to keep him calm. He’s also kicked off at dogs a few times on walks so I am trying to reduce his stress levels overall as well

Lily’s kitchen dry food is the only food he seems to be able to digest properly

Not trying to convince you, OP, but adaptil also do collars so the effect can be taken out and about on walks.

Zylkene is an oral supplement, based on the protein present in mother's milk that helps soothe pups.

Again, I can't speak to their effectiveness other than the opinion of my friend who used them and felt they did help their nervous rescue dog - alongside behavioural support.

Every dog is different and what works for one may not for another. I've also had good results with Adaptil collars even though I was sceptical.

CBD oil is amazing for stress ( in humans as well as dogs!) and has worked brilliantly for several very nervous dogs I've had here.

Where do you get your CBD oil from and how much do you use?

@furrybutts I buy it locally and give two drops twice a day of the 500 strength. I think most health food shops sell it.
