Did my friend make a mistake by not letting her remaining dog see the other dog's body after being PTS?
It's been three months and the one remaining seems to be down a lot.
I always did with mine.

They understand death and I believe seeing the body helps with closure and understanding.
Otherwise they might just think the dog disappeared or something.

No she didn't make a mistake.

Ime as a vet, a mare needs to see her dead foal, a cow her calf but dogs just rarely seem to "get it". Certainly dogs that just share a house. Might be different with a bitch and puppies.

My sister had brother and sister terriers , one died earlier this year at 16 1/2 , the other one didn’t see the body and has been perfectly ok since ( 17 in November) , so I would say it makes no odds at all .

Obviously the dog could be and probably is lonely, but I doubt he would be feeling any better if he had viewed his dead friend.
