Bloody dog!

Heard a rustling in the kitchen, dog has been in the bin and retrieved mouldy sausages. She’d eaten 2. They had white mould on. She generally has a good digestive system - she’s previously stolen takeaway containers, garlic bread etc and been fine. I’m worried about these because they’re mouldy. Do I need to contact the vets at 10.30 on a weekend? Thanks

I wouldn’t. I would prepare for poonami or vom though.

How dangerous is mould to eat? (Have you googled?)

I’ve googled for the past half hour and I’ve made myself stop - answers range from “take them to the vet immediately, they will be paralysed and unable to breathe” to “they’re bred for eating raw meat and a bit of mould wont deter them” so I’m feeling quite conflicted as to what’s for the best

Tbh I'd keep the dog off the carpets / beds / sofas and sleep near the so you can hear if there's excessive vomiting in the night. Try to stop the dog eating its own vomit.

FWIW PestDog has tucked into vomit (no doubt containing copious alcohol) on two separate occasions and is still alive. The first time produced no ill effects, the second just some vomiting.

Dogs are odd though. I feed mine an expensive balanced diet, lovingly prepared. Oldest terrier goes with dh on farm, eats some seriously disgusting dead stuff and is fine. ?

Last week ddog1 ate a box of Maltesers. Today 6 slices of eggy toast.
Cast iron gut.
Last summer ddog2 ate a flip flop.
Bounced more than usual..
Dsog1 also ate a dead bird last summer.
Ddog 1 also once ate a dead squirrel.
Ddogs are sent to try us op.

Give your out of hours vet a call and ask them OP.

In my experience, most out of hours vets are more than happy to give advice and/or reassurance over the phone and don't ask you to come in unless it's absolutely necessary.

It might set your mind at rest.

Thanks Avacados, seems to be absolutely fine this morning, no sick or poo! I think it would’ve started by now if it had really bothered her but will continue to keep a close eye for the next 24 hours or so!

The worst thing mine has eaten so far (apart from copious bits of toys) was a whole dead bird.

He didn’t even look like he was enjoying it, but still would not give it up!
