Weird dog habits

We were told that it might help settle ddog (10 months) n the evenings to give her a kong or chew.

I've just bought some expensive fish bone roll things and she is restless and whining, scratching at the door and keeps trying to hide the damn thing as if it's precious treasure that will be taken from her.

Does anyone's else's dog do this? Do they chew it eventually?

I have never heard of a fish bone roll , what is it ?
My Ddog loved his kong , you need to find out what your dog really likes , I wouldn't bother with the paste that you can buy for them its expensive and stinks. I used
If he was eating it inside
Peanut butter,
meat paste,
Any meat / veg left overs

eating outside
tinned pilchards/ mackerel
frozen yogurt
once you have figured out if your Ddog likes kongs buy a second one so you can have on in the wash/ freezer and one been used .
Dont just give it to him when he is going to be alone or he will associate it with been 'abandoned '. use it as a toy treat while you are with him too ,

Also deer antlers are great too

Yup our dog simply must hide his treasured toy what ever it is at the time and will whine sometimes in the night even to be allowed in a different room to hide it in a corner.

He is most settled when he has his ‘cave’ to sleep in. It’s one of those pyramid cat beds.

@yoohooitsme yes! She sleeps in a fleecy dome that is far too small for her, but she is so attached to it.

I wonder what goes on in her head. If she buried it in the garden would she remember? Why do they bury stuff?!

One of my dogs, a JRT hides or buries every treat she's given then stands watching over the place, digs it up and buries somewhere else etc etc. The Lab eats hers immediately. The other JRT sits with hers on the sofa or bed and guards it, shows her teeth to the others etc till she gets bored and the eats it. Dogs are all off

We buy expensive deer antlers/lamb throats or whatever gross stuff. He gets excited, grabs it, drags it to his bed and never eats it. Growls at anyone who goes near it until it gets taken off him.

He doesn't get them anymore.

Mine will go to her food bowl (which is in the kitchen) carry the biscuit into the living room, and then eat them on the rug, then goes back for more, and repeats until they are all gone
Wouldn't it be easier if she just ate them in the kitchen, straight out of the bowl,,,, i don't understand her

Mine does that Lord but just for the first mouthful 🙂 He also buries things if he thinks they're too big - we find Bonios under cushions etc. When we first got him he tried to bury a Dentastick in the curtains.

He looks really stressed out while he's looking for a hiding place!

YES - mine too. V annoying and makes a horrible mess.
Then, after she has stuffed her face, she will come and sit next to me on the sofa and lean back in a begging-type sitting position and expects me to rub her (very full) stomach for 10 mins at a time.

Ha ha mine also buried things , sometimes under his grubby muddy towel other times under nothing , he would paw the floor , put his treat down then 'bury' it by pushing imagery soil over it with his nose . He did not do it much with his kong but always did with his pigs trotters .

Is this dog trying to save the fish by covering them in water or burying them for a tasty snack later

Dearest Spot1 used to bury bones in the piles of the kids toys then attack the kids when they went near the piles, obviously to steal her bones! Well, she did it once or twice, till I worked out what was going on. Lived the rest of her life never getting bones bigger than could be eaten in one go. It is quite normal dog behaviour, if somewhat reprehensible, at least in human terms.
