Skinned paw pad - any advice?

Idiot dog has somehow managed to remove the surface layer of skin from the pad next to his dew claw (ie not the weight bearing bit).
My plan is to remove the loose skin flap and just leave it. Skin underneath isn't bleeding - guessing it's a bit tender though.

Okay to take him out like this or should I cover it? He is lifting it from the ground occasionally but otherwise is running about as usual.

TIA Smile

Mine had a similar thing happen to her when the groomer sliced her metacarpal pad open and took the top layer off it. I sprayed it with Leucillin and kept it covered up with a dog boot. You'll want to be very careful that it doesn't get infected, as my dog's did and ended up being a very expensive vet trip!

Oh dear! Thanks for the warning. I'll get some leucillin and keep it covered.
