Walking dhusky today, along the seafront - see a little dc about 2 having an obvious moment on the grass while dfamily are insisting he comes back to the pathway. The dm starts telling him quick or the ddog will get you!! Dgf and dgm join in trying to scare the dc into doing as he is told! Ddog meanwhile standing lovely certainly not willing to share a snarl for their benefit!!
I told the dc oh yes she loves giving kisses to dc!
Why would you put fear into a barely toddler dc??
The dgf tried to stroke her but she turned her whole body away from him!
Must have agreed he was odd!

That's a stupid thing to tell a child! I understand if a child needs space from dogs as they're a big animal with teeth to a small child. But the whole family putting fear into the child is stupid.

Probably the same people that tell small children that if they don't behave the policeman will come and take them away and put them in prison.

Ddog is nearly 6 and don't think she knows how to snarl anyway!

I've had people making their children cross the road upon seeing my dog when walking on a pavement (on lead), then make a point of saying loudly to their children when they are far enough away it's safe to cross over again.

I'll be walking with ddaughter which makes it even odder. I walk her with a head collar so wonder if people think it's a muzzle, but still.

Come to think of it, that's got to be preferable to the small child who stuck her fingers in DDog's face and nearly took out an eye, despite the really fucking obvious label saying not to touch him.

Probably for the same reason people tell toddler dc that random dogs like giving kisses to small children.

They are stressed out with their dc playing up in front of an audience and are trying anything to get his attention without thinking through the possible consequences of what they have said.

The consequence of what they said is their dc wont approach dogs and potentially will have a fear of dogs.

The consequence of what you said is hopefully their dc wont fear dogs, but may unexpectedly approach a unknown dog for a kiss.
