@yodl there's so much info out there. I basically decided to pick a trainer and stuck with their methods. I went with Kaelin Munkelwitz and bought her book and follow her on instagram. A lot of it makes sense but there's also a lot of conflicting info on the internet. Lots of info in her book re: crate training

DuchessDarty · 25/09/2019 12:20

Welcome @Alsohuman!

Yes will get better... and then it will get worse again... followed by getting better Grin

Seriously though being able to get her out of the house and walked us a massive improvement. For a start it means you can actually properly enjoy having a dog and they can do what it says on the tin. I love walks with my puppy and have enjoyed meeting other dog walkers.

But as with little babies, once puppies become bigger and more physically active and learn how to climb stairs, climb up on furniture, insist on bothering playing with other toddlers in the playground who’d rather be left alone ... well, can’t say it’s more restful Wink

She’s already climbing the stairs. And follows me everywhere. The firm decision not to allow her on our bed lasted oh, all of 12 hours! I’m really pleased to hear that walking will help. It’s going to be a loooooong three weeks!

She is gorgeous though.

rosesinmygarden · 25/09/2019 13:49

Our puppy is 17 weeks and is doing my head in. She's still so bitey and she's so defiant. She bit me today because I made her get off the sofa. I swear she understands what I'm saying and just does the opposite!

This is her (black) with my mum's border terrier who came to stay last week. Wine be repeating that for a while either!

We lost our 6 year old dog to cancer very suddenly in May and I do wonder sometimes if we got new puppy too soon. She can be lovely but she is so naughty and bitey and defiant and it's getting me down.

Off to puppy class tonight, where she'll be meek and mild and scared of everyone else ... if only they could see her at home!

Bayby good luck, remember a photo is mandatory on this thread 😉

Also gorgeous pup, we've got a Jrt cross yorkie who is now 15 weeks. It def gets easier once you can start taking them out more.

Our pup has had a very busy day bless him, he has been at doggy day care all day and then we went straight to puppy class. He coped reasonably well until the last 10 mins when devil dog came out in him and he started growling and snapping at all the other puppies! He was just beyond himself in tiredness and has not moved since we got home!!

Grassynoel · 25/09/2019 20:18

@rosesinmygarden same here. Our guy got very sick in March and died in July, only 6 too. Beyond heartbroken. We got a puppy to keep us busy and distracted and he's certainly doing that!

I have my moments too. I do compare him sometimes as he's so different to our last poor guy. Waaay crazier and much more cheeky!
But he's saving us. He really is. He's brought chaos and mayhem though sometimes I feel a bit lost and unsure, almost regretful. I've had down days too. Cried on the floor with him a couple of times.

Sometimes I feel guilty and almost like I'm in a dream and I'll wake up and see my other little pal in front of me but sadly that will never happen and life has to go on.

I hope you don't feel too down and things can only get better. I try not to wish Grassypaininthearsepup's life away but I can't wait until he settles down a bit!

Here's a pic of Grassypup, taken 3-4 weeks ago.

Aww, she's gorgeous!

DuchessDarty · 26/09/2019 00:14

@Bayby Hope is beautiful! I'm already missing that young pup stage.
@Grassynoel GrassyPup certainly looks like a charming and cheeky chappy! Very appropriate that he's living up to his name by posing on grass.

@rosesinmygarden how did puppy class go? My puppy was totally calm and meek outside of puppy class but during puppy class ... well let's just say on the last session she bit the trainer and made her bleed Blush

First night here went very well, not a peep was heard, she slept through and no wees until we went out into the garden. She’s currently snuggled under a blanket on her kitchen bed exploring her new toys. Smile

Bayby · 26/09/2019 06:21

Grassypup is gorgeous!

Roses my last boy was a bitey little sod! He was just getting out of it when he passed. It was the hardest thing we had to deal with because it really hurt physically, but it also hurt me mentally, he only really used to bite me. I found any time he was bitey that if I started focusing on something training wise it really helped. And it broke his training down into little chunks throughout the day which was helpful too. roses pup is beautiful, what is she?

VanillaSugarr · 26/09/2019 06:45

bayby. I’m so sorry. How heartbreaking.

We have a 13 week old cockerpoo who wants to eat everything in my vegetable patch. Let’s just say that courgettes do not agree with her 🤢

Here she is after her first puppy trim.

Bayby · 26/09/2019 07:05

Thank you Vanilla, it was such a shock as it wasn’t something that’s even routinely seen by the vets because of how far down the sting was. It broke my heart as he was my pride and joy. But he’ll be remembered and now I have Hope Smile

She’s already being a character, she doesn’t like the shininess of her bowls! Grin

Vanilla Pup is a sweetheart, I don’t envy the courgette disagreement though!

rosesinmygarden · 26/09/2019 07:11

She's a retriever x border collie so supposed to be intelligent Hmm.

She did really well at puppy class last night, only hid under chairs once and took part in all the exercises. We are working toward the puppy award...

She's terrified/determined about not going in the car though which is starting to get to be a problem. It took me 10 minutes to get her out of the training hall and into the car last night. We did manage to get there and back without her being sick though so I guess it's just another thing we need to work through. I'm trying to take her for a 2 minute drive every afternoon to the woods at the moment, which she loves. So I'm hoping she will start associating the car with fun outings rather than being sick.

rosesinmygarden · 26/09/2019 07:12

I'm so sorry to hear about your previous pup too bayby, how sad. X

lazymum99 · 26/09/2019 07:50

At first lazypup was scared of the shiny bowl. I had to take some of the food (dry) out and put it on the floor. I wonder if they were not fed from bowls at the breeders.

Bayby · 26/09/2019 09:55

I saw mine eating from shiny bowls so thought it would be ok, it only seems to be the water bowl for some reason! Grin

We’ve just gone to be fitted for a collar and someone caused a stir and was very popular!

TokyoSushi · 26/09/2019 11:07

Here's Tokyopup, hes 10 weeks and fortunately appears to be a little star.

Ah all the new pups are adorable!!

We had a 1-2-1 session with a trainer lined up today which I was really looking forward to. But then she cancelled at the last minute as her son was ill, so I have to wait til next week now.

Mine is doing well but we still haven’t managed to build up his time alone, or wen practise being alone much as my husband has been working from home this week. It’s been great as I’ve been able to get some stuff done but feel like we haven’t made progress.

On the plus side we have had a couple of really nice walks where he hasn’t pulled at all which made such a difference.

He also had a groom today so doesn’t stink anymore (his ears are constantly soggy and dip in everything so he stinks!) and he is all fluffy and gorgeous. He’s had ALOT of cuddles today!!

SunnyUpNorth · 26/09/2019 18:26

Handsome after his groom!

So beautiful. Only two weeks before Gladys can go out. She’s booked in for her second vax a week today. We’re so looking forward to it.

Girliefriendlikescake · 26/09/2019 22:13

Oh my goodness I can't cope with so much cuteness!! 😍😍😍 Beautiful pups, welcome newbies.

Dpup has been at my mums today and had a good day I think. He was left a couple of times and seemed to cope okay, mum left him in just room and he didn't wee/poo or destroy anything so am taking that as a win 😁

We walked him to a local shop this evening and we walked nicely there but the whole way back kept trying to attack my ankles 🙄 not sure what you're meant to do about that?!

Anyway here's a pic from this morning, it makes him look massive so have put a pic of him on a walk for comparison!!

@Girliefriendlikescake he is so cute!

About attacking ankles: our dog is a corgi so he tries nipping ankles as that´s the way how corgis herd sheep... Our breeder told us that if we don´t want this to become a lifelong habit we should stop him every time he tries to do it.

We are still struggling and I´m still unsure how should I keep him at nights. He´s still sleeping with our older dog but he wakes up super early, between 5 AM and 6 AM, we´d like him to wake at seven.
There used to be only pee on his pads when we woke up, but for the fifth day in a row he has pood during the night as well...

I bought earplugs and at least he doesn´t wake me up now when he begins to play with our older dog :D But I know it´s only short term solution.
