Just had a nice moment-did a cooked breakfast for everyone, we sat down at the table with pooch in his pen (with a kong while we ate). He started barking to get out so we ignored him and then he settled in his bed so I dropped a few treats in and he fell asleep! We had half an hour of calm family time-chatting and eating while he snoozed in the corner. It’s been such a tough week I’m going to keep that moment in my mind for next time I’m struggling. That’s the goal isn’t it-all being together with the family dog by your side. At the minute it feels like we’re all living separate lives with me or DH trapped in the kitchen!

Ledkr · 01/12/2019 11:34

Spotty thanks for making me feel a bit sane 😃
Getting up is not an option for me. I sleep terribly and get severe migraines from lack of sleep.
She mostly doesn't do more than one wee overnight and has at times done none so hopefully she will be an eventual holder.
What I have done this weekend is start to get her used to closing the crate for short periods so we can have a break and she can nap as she gets really skittish if she misses naps.
Plan to take pads up during the day and keep taking her out and if she's in the crate hopefully she will store up a wee or poo to do outside and I can praise her.
Next door have a puppy too which barks and whines all night and they are at their wits end but she wees outside so I guess you can't have it all 🤪

ClownsandCowboys · 01/12/2019 14:00

Someone suggested putting Xmas tree in a table. Thing is Clownpup is big enough to get her paws on finding table and kitchen side, so don't think that will work.

Ledkr · 01/12/2019 17:55

SHE DID A WEE OUTSIDE.
I went out for an hour and left her in kitchen in crate but open.
Got back to dry pads so took her in garden and just waited and she weed !
I just hope it doesn't rain so her scent stayed there. Who knew an animal pissing on your lawn could make you happy Grin

Spotty528 · 01/12/2019 18:24

That’s absolutely fantastic!! If she can do it once then she can do it every time 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

Ledkr · 01/12/2019 18:28

Thanks spotty. I've brought the younger ones swimming so dd and her bf have instructions to head to same spot after for her post dinner poo Grin
I think it's been hard cos dh has worked both weekends since we got her and so I feel it's all come to me.
Friday I'm in Lapland UK with DD and then out at night for my works do so am looking forward to having some dog free time and letting him take over.

Spotty528 · 01/12/2019 18:47

Absolutely, it’s so exhausting when it’s all on you. I really struggled last week-It’s pretty grim when work feels like a welcome break! I’ve let DH do most of the work this weekend, I’ve been here but have spent a lot less time in the kitchen-I’d forgotten what the rest of my house looked like 😆 enjoy the time to yourself, you’re earned it!

Ledkr · 01/12/2019 21:03

Yes I was excited to go to work too!
I've actually come to bed.
Dd and her bf will put her to bed. Luna is a bit skittish and unsettled this evening maybe overtired?

Chickenpie9 · 01/12/2019 23:12

Can I join ? Ours is 17 weeks now got her at 13 weeks and it’s been hard ! She’s in at everything and I used to laugh when I saw puppy posts about slippers and loo roll but oh it’s hard when it’s your own ! Haven’t properly tidied the house in ages . Got her pooping outside but not so much weeing .

Outtheforest · 02/12/2019 06:35

Forest pup home from his 3rd and hopefully final vet stay. Has now spent 3 weeks as an inpatient over a 6 week period. He celebrated by hopping out the car and going to chase the chickens which he knows he isnt allowed to do.
We've found after each vet stay hes forgotten alot of his training so back to basics again with regards to recall, chasing animals, staying out of the animals fields etc which with a 6 month old teenager isnt fun. He's also now not happy about being left, think he fears I'm going to disappear for nights on end again bless him

BiteyShark · 02/12/2019 06:57

Outtheforest BiteyDog was older than forestpup when he was admitted to the vets but still at an impressionable age and we had behavioural changes afterwards including anxiety. He has got better but it's been a slow process and some things still remind him of the vets. Going back to basics sounds a good approach.

Outtheforest · 02/12/2019 08:14

"Biteyshark"
Thankfully the vets are great with him and as a result he actually gets excited when he realises where we are going or if we drive past. Going back to basics with only being left for small periods and building back to the 3 hours we were at before as this seems to be when he gets anxious. The rest is thankfully all just unwanted behaviours such and snapping around food and recall which I can cope with.
Really hoping this is all over so he can have some stability. Poor thing hasn't spent anywhere longer than a month in his whole life

fortifiedwithtea · 02/12/2019 08:17

Got fortifiedpup Friday. She is 8 weeks and 3 days. Breeder said she feeds 4 times a day but we have found she doesn’t eat every meal. This morning DH fed her before work aka an hour earlier than she is used to.

She howled after he left for work and didn’t touch her breakfast. Now sleeping on her bed breakfast untouched.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 02/12/2019 08:21

I used to think BiteyFuck would be a vicious dog due to the amount of biting he did, but I’m becoming more relieved on that front now at 5.5 months. He has horrible bitey days but they’re less frequent, and he doesn’t really go for my trouser legs much now - he still likes to get hold of a sleeve and pull and I have one longish coat that he likes to bite, but he does know enough tricks now that I can divert him to do some tricks for treats and that distracts him and calms him down. He still bites when he needs a poo but we are better at knowing what’s wrong and taking him out. I found we became ninjas at grabbing him when we thought he needed a wee and rushing him outside - on the first floor so had to carry him downstairs to the garden every time - and we learned to read his signs accurately. It took longer to be sure he’d hold it if we missed a sign, but now at this age he will go to the door and I can put lace-up boots on, get my coat, hat and bag, find a ball and put his lead on and he’ll just hold it. He’s shit at being left alone though - the trainer from our puppy class is coming for a 1 2 1 this week to see if she can help.

MaryLennoxsScowl · 02/12/2019 08:24

Fortified she may just be overwhelmed at the change. BiteyFuck wasn’t very interested in his food when new as he suddenly had no competition from littermates and was also in a strange place. Try hand feeding if she won’t eat her lunch, maybe.

FanFckingTastic · 02/12/2019 11:54

Hi all, I hope that you don't mind me joining you! We have a 15 week old mini Dachsund. I think that she's doing ok with her training but it's very difficult to gauge how she's getting on as we have nothing to compare her to! She's pretty good with weeing outside - poo's have been a bit more of a challenge but I think we are getting there. We do seem to get accidents in the evening though. She will manage to hold a wee for a good few hours during the day but in the evening she literally needs to go every 20 mins or so. Anyone else experience this and is it just harder for them to hold it when they are tired? She has a large crate overnight with a bed and a puppy pad in it. Some mornings she will have held it all night, other nights she will have done a wee and got herself back into bed. I'm thinking that I should probably get a smaller crate and do away with the puppy pad completely but am worried that she'll end up sleeping in her own wee. Finally we haven't really left her on her own yet. She'll sometimes have some time in the crate during the day whilst I'm in the house but this normally results in her crying or worse, a dirty protest! Any tips for helping them have some alone time? I don't intend to leave her for long periods at all but it would be good to be able to do this at some point.

Spotty528 · 02/12/2019 12:11

Our pup does better being left alone if we actually go out, if he can hear us in the house he gets upset because he wants to be with us. When we actually leave he’ll have a little whinge but soon stops (I’ve been filming him when we go!) he’s ok for an hour and half in the morning as he’s ready for a sleep by then. We give him a kong filled with cream cheese to distract him as we leave.

He’s 12 weeks and also does well during the day but has accidents in the early morning and evening. I’ve got a theory that he could be scared of going outside in the dark or can’t see the garden and so he’s training gets forgotten or maybe it’s too cold or he’s just too lazy at those times of the day!

Spotty528 · 02/12/2019 12:11

He also used a puppy pad over night and I’m really not ready to rock that boat yet as he sleeps 8-5 without a peep (touchwood!!)

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/12/2019 12:12

Welcome fan umm a pic is mandatory on the thread 😉

Sounds like your pup is doing well, my puppy went through a phase of doing more wee's in the evening and having more accidents then. I'm not sure what the reason was but I just watched him like a hawk and put him out every 30 mins or so. He's 6 months now and hasn't had this issue for ages.

Re leaving them I think you just have to bite the bullet, it helps if they're used to napping in their crate some of the time. I used to try and time it so I could be fairly sure he'd be tired and sleep.

My puppy seems to be being sick over night, he's done it twice now and it looks a bit like he's been eating stuffing from a soft toy 🙄 I can't work our which one it is though! He also likes eating hair and fluff, weirdo.

FanFckingTastic · 02/12/2019 12:36

Thanks for the tips! I like the idea of the cream cheese in the kong spotty528.

Girliefriendlikespuppies my puppy also wants to eat everything and seems to have developed a taste for puppy pads - she's then sick too. I've tried to upload a pic of dpup so hopefully it will work and you can see her!

There seems to be quite a lot about biting here at the moment - Tokyopup was a complete nightmare! I'm pleased to say that we've reached the 20-week mark and the biting is slowly, finally subsiding!

Spotty528 · 02/12/2019 14:01

So good to hear Tokyo! My coat took a hit today-he’s torn the sleeve of it. He’s currently munching his way through a cardboard tube-cardboard seems to be a massive hit.

She’s beautiful Fan!

Keepsmiling1 · 02/12/2019 15:36

I haven't been on here for a while -SmileyPup is 23 weeks now and I have to say I love him! I didn't think I would feel this way in the beginning and for the first 6 weeks or so I regretted getting him but he's part of the family now! We still have moments when it's difficult and I am still getting used to having someone else I need to plan for/sort out but I love it when he curls up on me in the evening for a cuddle.

@SunnyUpNorth you mentioned pulling on the lead before. Did this get better on its own? DPup pulls on the lead quite a lot - he is only small so doesn't hurt me and I can easily handle him but I would prefer it if he didn't. I am considering getting a 1-2-1 session to look at this but don't know if I'm expecting too much while he's little and it's something that will improve on its own .

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 02/12/2019 17:05

Fan aww gorgeous, will try and attach a pic of my pup in his Christmas jumper as well!! Yep we had to ditch all puppy pads as dpup got a taste for them 😐

Today, Clownpup has bitten a hole in a not very cheap cycling jacket of mine and got hold of my glasses. She's chewed the glasses and broken the lenses. I know she's a baby, and I didn't realise I left them in her reach, but arghhhhhh
