Close friend just had to have her dog PTS

My close friend treats her dogs like her children. Very very close to them. Sadly she's just had to have one put to sleep and I'd like to do something to let her know I'm thinking of her? She's not hugely sentimental or outwardly emotional but just saying I'm Sorry doesn't feel like enough.

Any suggestions? Do people do cards in this sort of situation?

I think a card would be lovely. And maybe some flowers? Or a candle to light to think of her dog? I would have loved that when my beloved cat died. My neighbour brought me round a card and a remembrance rose for the garden - I was so touched we planted a whole rose bed with 14 rose plants to remember him. So perhaps a plant if you know she is a gardener?

Jacqui Lawson, the ecard people have just created a card for just this situation. here www.jacquielawson.com/sendcard/preview?cont=1&hdn=0&fldCard=3501460&path=83545&pmode=init A bit of a tear jerker but also rather sweet.

Just saying you're sorry is a start, even if it doesn't feel like much. My friend bought me a Labrador mug when I lost my last dog. I still love it 18 months on. But lots of contact (text is better initially, I couldn't have spoken about it for a while).

You're a lovely friend.

Sorry Brownowl, I'm not keen on that.

I think doing something to acknowledge her loss would be a lovely gesture. It doesn't matter whether it's a card, a text or flowers, any one of those would be appreciated I'm sure.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I was going to call her yesterday when she told me but she can be quite reserved with her emotions and I don't think she'd have wanted me to hear her upset.
