Seven week old puppy - Question about routine

Last night we got a seven week old Border Collie from a farm where the mother is a working dog.

We've read the dog training guides and they all seem very focused on the dog spending a lot of time in a crate during the day.

At least one person is with the dog all day and at the moment we tend to spend from around 07:00 to 19:00 in the garden. This means today has looked like taking her for a little walk, doing a bit of training on coming to us when we call and walking with us and a lot of sleeping or lying in the shade next to where we are in the garden.

It feels like this should be a reasonable thing to do, but I'm curious what you think.

As soon as we get a few nore vaccinations we'll take her out to see more things. First step will be people nearby, then the nearest town and eventually a city.

As for the law. We're not in the UK so it's a bit different and the same applies to what we have access to. There is no puppy classes around where we are.

Little and often is the key to training, along with patience and trying to keep one step ahead of them! Especially a clever dog.
I’ve known very clever Border Collies with fairly thick owners and it’s clear who’s in charge and doing the training Grin

Socialisation is very important and can start before the vaccinations are done as long as you carry them and keep away from unvaccinated dogs etc
A well socialised and trained dog is a pleasure to own.
