Make me feel better, dog vomiting

Hi all. I've posted before about my very old man of a Labrador.

He's been vomiting for 24 hours, literally keeping nothing down. We're really careful about watching him when we're out with him because he is a hoover so I don't think it's anything he's eaten. he has vomited before but not for this length of time and to this extent. DH Gave him plain boiled rice for his dinner and it's just came straight back up.

Do I phone out of hours vet tonight or do I just wait it out?

If you're worried call them, honestly, they won't tell you off for being concerned about him.
Sending hugs, I hate it when my old man is feeling iffy.

I once phoned out of hours and was told off for it by the duty vet, we then took him on the Monday and were told off because he needed stitches. I wasn't happy. It's put me off ringing.

I think I will put my big boy pants on and do it anyway

Oh bless you, that's really poor on their part, I do hope they aren't that horrible this time.

If he's still vomiting what you feed him after 24 hours I would worry about a blockage. Has he kept water down?

When you boil the rice keep the water and let it cool a little and give him some to drink - it goes thick and milky but my pooch loves it and definitely helps settle his tummy when he's poorly!

I'd probably call - hope he's ok.
If it makes you feel better, I'm £150 down this month as my old lab spent nearly 2 hours dramatically dry heaving on a Saturday evening. He was perking up in the waiting room of the out of hours vet, we got told to take him in to our normal vets on Monday morning if still bad. (Of course, he was fine by Sunday morning.) He was given an anti nausea jab, very much felt like it was for my benefit rather than his though!
A previous sick bug lasted nearly three days, and included flooding our vets consulting room, as he was drinking plenty, and bringing it up nearly as fast. Turned out 2 other dogs on our street had the same thing that week. Again, not much they could do, and full recovery (but a lot cheaper!).
But I think once the vet rules out anything nasty, you are calmer and dog relaxes too.

@MrsElf nothing cuter than an old lab but it seems like there's nothing as expensive either!

@Bananarama12 he seems to be bringing water up too. He is farting away and has pooped today though, but could there still be a blockage?

Possibly. Either way I would expect a vet to see an elderly dog that can't keep anything down for the last 24 hours.
Do you not get to call the vet directly?

@Bananarama12 we go through to a main call centre thing and then the vet calls you.

@BobTheFishermansWife he's much better today, jag last night and two tins of some special food. He was begging for my toast crusts today so that's an improvement
