Has anyone successfully introduced a dog into a cat household?

We have 2 rescue cats aged around 6 years, we've had them for 2 1/2 years. Love them to bits and they have a pretty much perfect cat life.
I would love to get a dog, I have the time to give one and I think it would be a great addition to our family. Not a puppy, way too stressful for all concerned, it would need to be an older dog from a rescue who can be around cats.
However, my cats were here first and I am not going to do anything to make their lives worse. We have a large house and garden so plenty of room for the cats to escape.
Has anyone one done this successfully or is it a complete non starter?
Thanks
(Will re post in the litter tray)

It depends a lot on your cats how well it’ll go btw...

I’m in week three of an upstairs cat and a downstairs dog, the cat has lived with two dogs previously - the last one only died in December, the dog has lived with a cat and is only mildly interested.

It’s only in the last couple of days that the cat will come downstairs and then only for about 10 minutes to glare at the dog a bit and then goes away...

Yep - we brought home a puppy to our two cats last summer. One male, one female.

We didn't do any phased introductions or anything as I think they can sometimes cause more problems than they solve - however, the puppy was kept on a lead and not allowed to chase or terrorise the cats while we worked on a leave command.

The dog is 18 months old now and they co-exist quite happily. Dog does chase the cats sometimes but otherwise they get on just fine.

RisingSun good luck! I think DH is on board as he has been muttering about how to dog proof the gardenGrin
