Best non pull harness

Hi all
Our 18 month old spaniel still pulls on occasion, we are continually training him but as I say he sometimes just gets it in his head to pull like a train and no amount of food, etc will distract him

Anyway his harness has just broke so looking to invest in a good non pull harness now he's fully grown so would love your recommendations please

The trouble is that the harnesses marketed as being no pull harnesses "work" because they tighten when the dog pulls, causing pain or discomfort. The idea is that the dog learns not to pull because it doesn't like the pain or discomfort inflicted by the harness.

Training methods and equipment that rely on causing pain or discomfort are considered dreadfully outdated. They also tend not to work - often, the dog pulls more to get away from the discomfort.

Get something like a Perfect Fit harness, which doesn't tighten. When he does start pulling, stop walking. When he does stop pulling, allow him to walk forward. If he pulls again, stop walking. Repeat ad nauseum. They do get it in the end!

Battendog (a two year old springer) still pulls when he sees something exciting but the change in him between 18 months and 2 years was considerable in that he suddenly settled down and started walking nicely on the lead whenever we are doing our normal walks.

New places and exciting distractions are still a work in progress but I might be tempted to keep up the training with a normal harness (or collar/lead) with yours and see what the next few months brings.

I have a halti. The lead fastens at the front of the dog
Harnesses that fasten on the back don't stop pulling. It's the only thing that worked for my dog. If she tries to pull she just turns towards me. It doesn't work by tightening or choking her

We use a perfect fit harness as well. If ddog pulls we just wait it out until he comes back. We also reward loose lead walking but increase our expectations gradually so 1 step then reward, 2 steps then reward, 3 steps then reward. At the moment, when he has had a good run in the field, he can do 50 steps then a reward but on the way to the field it is a lot of stopping and waiting!

Another Perfect Fit harnessed dog here. The TwattingDog is a large mix of multiple breeds, and pulls like a train if she gets the chance.

We used a Halti for a few months when she was about a year old (she came to us at 9mths) after she nearly killed us both by leaping in front of a car.

The Perfect Fit has been amazing - she barely tries to pull anymore, and even my 7yo nephew can walk her (obv supervised) on this one.
