How do I find a reputable breeder?

My parents have a bedlington terrier who has the nicest temperament- they have had others too who have been lovely.

My husband has fallen in love with my parents dog 🤦‍♀️ and after talking about a dog for some time now we were thinking that a Bedlington might be a good fit for our family.

How do i go about finding a reputable breeder? I really want to be responsible about this - I would rehome if we could find the right breed for us but would like to look into a puppy/younger bedlington terrier if possible.

Where do I start? I know the recommendations about seeing mum etc.

Ir can you recommend any medium sized mild temperament dogs suitable for homes with children? tIA

A Bedlington would be a good choice. The ones I've come across have been really nice dogs. I'm not sure if they're prone to any genetic nasties - you might want to check that out.

As for what defines a decent breeder, and how to find one, there was a long thread about it a few weeks back. Scroll down and you should find it.

Some people will insist that a good breeder must show etc, but I think that's bollocks. You want someone who has thought about health, co-efficient of inbreeding, temperament and socialisation, and who genuinely loves their dogs. Be prepared to ask a lot of questions. Why this bitch? Why that stud? Are they keeping a puppy?

And a caring breeder will ask you a lot of questions, too.

Good luck in your search.
