Natural remedies for hip dysplasia
5

Lizbiz89 · 06/08/2019 09:48

My beautiful bullmastiff boy has got weak back legs. I can safely assume that this is down to having hip dysplasia. I was wondering if anyone can recommend any natural medications I could give him. I know if I go to the vets they'll just prescribe him with metacam which will only be a temporary fix. Any recommendations would be really helpful.

Hydrotherapy can really help improve muscle tone which the supports the joints.

Have you had investigated by vet to know its definitely hip dysplasia, its not clear in post & Hind limb weakness can also be a neurological issue. There lots of different treatments/ medications & best to work with vet to find most suitable for your dog. Metacam can work well for some dogs, mine has galliprant which is a newer drug with less risk of the side effects.

Its important to relieve their pain though and the less they want use, the weaker it will become and body will also be compensating for the weakness causing problems elsewhere.

You really need to go to the vets and get a solid diagnosis for the sake of your dog. It may well be hip dysplasia but equally their could be something else going on that also needs treatment.

We use Yumove to help support the joints and hydrotherapy is meant to be good too. However you do need a professional diagnosis because if your dog has dysplasia and is in pain there are other solutions too.

You can not safely assume that this is hip dyplasia. You need an official diagnosis from the vet and there are a lot of other things this can be.

My dog has weak back legs from a damaged disc in his spine and nerve damage for example.

Natural remedies will also only be a temporary fix.

Please go to your vet and get a full and accurate diagnosis instead of trying “natural remedies”.
By all means ask for advice when you have a diagnosis, but you absolutely need that first.

And PS if you really think, even with a hip dysplasia diagnosis that your vet will “only” prescribe metacam, I really recommend finding a different vet who will more fully care for your pet and explore all options with you.
